My name is Robin Mellon.
I'm the Executive Director of Advocacy
and Business Services
at the Green Building Council of Australia.
We're a non-government organisation
set up to help move the property industry across Australia
towards more sustainable practices.
We talk to local, State
and Federal Government
about the social, the economic,
the environmental benefits.
Telework is important because it means you're not confined to a formal office.
It's also important in terms of productivity and flexibility.
We do frequent staff surveys.
Last year it was 42% of our staff have flexible working arrangements,
which means they work different hours.
We do make financial savings by having
a more flexible working arrangement for staff and by encouraging telework.
I probably work from home one day a week.
That's to try and get some of the more serious projects
that need quite intense concentration or intense focus done.
Communication is going to be very important
if you're encouraging people to telework.
WOMAN: Hello. I'm Karen Jamal.
I'm the Communications Manager with the Green Building Council of Australia.
By having me here in Canberra
they're able to have a presence
in the nation's capital
without having to rent an office.
The Chief Executive and all of the Executive Directors
all work from home at least one day a week,
so it's a business model that everyone has taken up.
For me, telework means being able to do all of my job,
but being able to do it from home.
Telework is successful at the Green Building Council of Australia.
Just the day-to-day flexibility is what I love about working from home,
and teleworking allows me to do that.
I find that telework saves me hours every day.
I'm not having to be in traffic for hours,
because I'm home to start with,
and leaving my office is just a matter of walking up the stairs.
