Hey everybody, Matt Horwitz, BreakTheFear.com. In today's video, I wanted to share with you
a book that had a big impact and still does have big impact on my life - It's called the
"Tao of Leadership". If you haven't hear about the Tao - it's pronounced "Dow" like D-A-O,
but it's spelled T-A-O. Um, it was ah, it was about… you know what I actually have
the original, or the translation right here, it's the Tao Te Ching. I'm trying to see here
if it shows the, the history of the book. It's sort of like a philosophical reading
and this was written about 2,500 years ago in China and it's still among a top selling
book these days. Anyway, I wanted to read you guys an exert. It's called The Paradox
of Letting Go. "When I let go what I am, I become what I might be. When I let go of what
I have, I receive what I need. These are feminine or yin paradoxes. By yielding, I endure. The
empty space is filled. When I give of myself, I become more. When I feel most destroyed,
I am about to grow. When I desire nothing, a great deal comes to me. When I give up trying
to impress the group, I become very impressive. But when I am just trying to make myself look
good, the group knows that and does not like it. My best work is done when I forget my
own point of view. The less I make of myself, the more I am. When I yield to the wishes
of the person working, I encounter no resistance. This is the wisdom of the feminine. Let go
in order to re - let go in order to achieve. The wise leader demonstrates this". Excuse
me. This was something that was very powerful for me, um, about 9 months ago before ah,
I embarked on a journey and left Philadelphia and moved down to Florida for 8 months. And
it was really these first two sentences and if what I just read you was, um, didn't…
you didn't retain it, or it didn't' sink in, just go through and listen to that beginning
part again because each part of the book - the book is not meant to be this breeze though.
Each part of the book, you'll notice, is it's own separate reading in itself and it's just
one page. The words are very well placed and thought of. Um, I'm going to read that again…
just the beginning, the beginning part. "When I let go of what I am, I become what I I might
be. When I let go of what I have, I receive what I need." It's tough for me to interpret
this one for you. I think this is one that need to be interpreted by yourself, but this
is powerful. What are you struggling with? Maybe you're trying too hard? "When I let
of what I am, I become what I might be." This is great. Again, I'm not going to be able
to translate into a direct, uh, direct meaning, because it's so unique for each and every
individual, but I hope you find this exert, uh, or this reading valuable. Again, this
is the Tao of Leadership, and this translation is by John Heider. I'll put a link to this
on the page or around this video. Um, leave me your comments. Let me know what you guys
thought. Again, I hope this was valuable. I'm Matt Horwitz, talk to you guys soon.
