Maybe it's a friend. Maybe it's family.
Your employees or co-workers. Maybe it's you.
Chances are, you know someone who's been searching
-- struggling, even --
to find quality healthcare coverage.
Well, there's good news on the horizon.
Introducing kynect:
Kentucky's Healthcare Connection.
kynect is an online guide to finding
the right healthcare plan for you, your family
-- and if you're a small business owner --
your employees.
kynect will provide one-stop shopping for
individuals, families and businesses.
It's as simple as going online to purchase airline tickets
or book a hotel.
kynect will allow for easy comparison of available
insurance plan options based on participating
providers, quality, price, benefits and services.
In addition, individuals can use kynect
to find out if they are eligible for payment assistance
or special discounts to make insurance more affordable,
or for programs like Medicaid and KCHIP,
Kentucky's Children's Health Insurance Program.
Kynect will also assist employers
in facilitating the enrollment of their employees
in health plans and qualify small businesses for tax credits
so that they can provide their valuable employees with health insurance.
With help available however you want it --online, over the phone, or in person.
Companies with 50 or fewer workers
won't be penalized for not providing health care coverage.
And businesses with fewer than 25 employees
can get tax credits to help buy insurance.
As you've probably heard,
changes in our health care system and laws are happening.
But they won't happen all at once.
They will happen gradually over the next few years,
to provide consumers,
employers and all Kentuckians available elements of the Affordable Care Act through kynect.
For example:
Families cannot be denied coverage
due to a pre-existing health condition
or lose coverage because a family member gets sick.
Insurance companies will not be allowed to
charge women more than men for the same coverage.
Insurance companies will be required to cover anyone
with a pre-existing health condition,
and allow children to stay on their parents' health insurance
until they reach the age of 26.
With kynect,
individuals may qualify for payment assistance
and special discounts on deductibles,
copays and co-insurance,
which would be the part you are required to pay.
Small businesses may qualify for financial help as well.
To sum it all up:
It's a new day for healthcare coverage in Kentucky.
Thanks to kynect,
the power to manage your own care is finally in your hands.
And quality healthcare coverage,
for every Kentuckian, is finally a reality.
