Hey guys my name is dr.d i'm the owner and founder of drd's vocal jamboree. an online
based vocal instruction business. This is my maltese, Romeo. Say hi romeo. Today I want
to talk about one thing, breath management. While you're singing breath management is
actually very important. If you can't support the tone you're trying to sing with you won't
be able to sing. Breath is essentially the fuel to your car. It drives the vehicle. It's
the backbone of what it is you're singing. If you aren't breathing you aren't going any
where vocally. You aren't going to be able to sing the songs you want to sing. Its one
thing to breath because you have to breath and it' another to breath smart and breath
for singing. you want to make sure your managing your breath appropriately and theres a few
ways you can do this. when you go to sing any song you want to make sure you aren't
slouching. you want to make sure the sternum is risen. Make sure that theres no chest displacement.
because when you do this your rib cage is actually going in ward and pushing against
your lungs. so your lungs can;t expand fully like they would be bale to if you were to
maintain a nice appropriate posture. so you want to first make sure your posture is nice.
when you goto inhale make sure it has no sound. an audible inhale is the throat resisting
air. if you're actually going like what you're doing is not allowing the throat to take in
as much air as it can. it's actually resisting air. if you notice when i did that my chest
went out and my lungs went in. again preventing the lung from expanding. So make sure you
have a nice posture and a quiet inhale like this. i just took an inhale and there was
no sound, my chest didn't go anywhere.while you're singing what you want to do is imagine
that as your singing the air is coming into your mouth as you sing. I cant really demonstrate
how to do it but it's just a matter of singing and having visual cue of the air coming into
your mouth. you shouldn't be pushing air out. you should be be imaging that the air is coming
into you even though it isn't actually coming into you. What this will do is create the
physical cues your body needs to maintain in order to have appropriate breath management.
you have three things, posture. maintain a nice posture. second thing make sure the inhale
is quite and inaudible you shouldn't hear anything. third thing is imagine the air coming
into your mouth as you sing. very simple things you do that will definitely help your breath
management. make sure you goto my personal website drd's vocal jamboree.com. make sure
