Welcome to Scopefest 2013, I'm Dr. Lisa capner , and I'm a colorectal surgeon at La Peer
surgical centre and we are here in the celebration of March colorectal cancer awareness month.
I have with me here Dr.Sanak Tabib and Dr.Arash Nowain, they'll be doing the colonoscopies
of a group of doctors who have decided to participate free .
Got how many, about ten doctors in there having all the preps and giving us some last minutes
instructions , and you know getting ready for the big day which is tomorrow , so we're
gonna drink up tonight and we're ready tomorrow and hope we'll be very clean and prepped well
. Here's the prep.
La Peer health systems, Welcome to scopefast 2013.
Good morning, so it's five hours before my procedure. While everybody else is sleeping,
I'm up early getting ready to drink my second prep for my colonoscopy which is in about
five hours. Traditionally we let patients drink both doses the night before, but in
the last year or so we've noticed that doing a split dose five hours before the procedure
gives patients a much cleaner colon which means a much better exam, so because I know
the importance of this test , I wanna do it right so I'm up early drinking this and I'll
see you at the centre . So we're here in a pre-op; I changed, put
my IV on, I'm all ready to go in the room and get sedated and do this procedure , I'm
very relaxed , but hungry ,that's the only thing , I'm... but otherwise, I know I'm in
good hands . This is my...
How did the prep go? It went excellent.
Everything ok? You could do it? I did do supra, which is a split dosing.
------Just purple pull and you're gonna feel good, you're gonna get over the hangovers,
Good, I can't wait And you're gonna wake up very smooth.
Thank you. I'm going through the patient's history, sometimes
it changes what we do and how we perform in the procedure, so it's important to know why
we're doing the procedure and what the patient's background is so I always like to review that
before I start. That's a very fast count, Lisa.
I got this, eat this prep, this is gonna be resindary.
You got this down. I'm pretty good right now , I'd say I'm surprised
that I'm not hungry . I'm Dr. Parks, I'm getting my colonoscopy
today because I just turned fifty and this is colon cancer awareness month and it is
a good thing to do. I've been a gastroenterologist for more than
ten years and I've performed over than ten thousand colonoscopies, but today it's my
day to have a good colonoscopy for colon cancer prevention.
Hi I'm Tammy , I'm here for an endoscopy and colonoscopy with Dr. Nowain, I did the suprep
bowel prep, it was ok, had a little weird after taste but it was ok , so I'm ready to
get this done ,wish me luck. So I'm performing an ETD for Dr. Lisa, one
of my colleuges, its part of scopfesting today ,to make sure everything is o.k. in her upper
intestinal tract , we're taking pictures of the -----here , we're gonna take a few glides
as we go along to make sure that there's nothing to worry about .
Alright, welcome to room four, the cool room at Lapeer surgery centre we are doing a survey
on colonoscopy on a gentleman who had a colonoscopy ,few years back ,five years ago he had a few
little polyps that really moved and he's back for more , he split his prep as I told him
to ,he followed his instructions well ,and we really see the difference when they do
that . so on the left side you're looking at the
forward view to interior grade view , and at the right side sort of like a rearity camera
you're looking backwards in the colon, it gives me the ability to look behind polyps
like this particular one on the left side you can see that I can't see behind the polyp
there ,so let's stick the camera right behind it like such, I'm looking at the right screen,
I'm looking at the backside of the polyp that you're seeing at the left screen and make
sure there's no polyps there . These are definitely denying polyps, the quedo
is at the nominas or at the hyperplasic, at the nominas polyps are polyps that have cancer
potential, hyperplasic polyps don't need only good way to really know is to remove it, send
it to the pathologist and then they will tell us what it was.
Hi I'm Tumin shee, I just finished my endoscopy and my colonoscopy and everything was smooth
and easy. My name is Railine Smith ,I just had my EGD
incolonscopy and it was the best thing I've ever done ,and everything was good and the
worst part was just preparing my prep and not having any fruit for two days but everything
was great , and I'm happy that I did it . So my colonoscopy is over, the easy part is
over. I feel really good , everything turned out
really well and I don't feel anything, like I'm not dizzy or anything , I really feel
good , in no pain , it was really good today .
How did I do? How did you do? Great.
Did I really? You're awesome, everything looks beautiful,
and do you like my happy face? It's so cute, you made me happy.
Good. Thanks for everything, and you're the best.
Alright. Dr. Nowain was amazing, and the staff was
ausumn, I feel great and I'm ready for my banana pan cakes.
So today went great, we finished up scopefests and we took out a number of polyps , and hope
we did some real good for people ,and it made me realize I need to get screen soon as well.
We did a total of fourteen upper and lower endoscopies, most of them were colonoscopies
on our own staff and physicians, everyone did excellent, the bowel preps were amazing;
they were probably the best preps we've seen here for a very long time.
Hi, my name is Christy, I'm the ----area for supprep, and when Dr.tubid you know asked
me to be a part of scopefest 2013,I was very honored , I think it's great effort out there
promoting cancer awareness ,as you could see the prep is not that bad , ------,so get out
down there so get out there and get your colonoscopy ,good luck.
I'm glad I did it ,I did the procedure for my family to make sure I'm o.k. .
Everyone's out eating right now and celebrating, we're gonna join them soon and we hope to
have more of these colon cancer prevention days to come.
You guys last saw me this morning at the cancer surgeon centre after the procedure, I had
a great day, felt fine ,and I'm out here tonight having dinner with my colleuges as part of
scopefest , and I'm proud to say because I did follow instructions , I did get the award
for the best prep , so again , please everybody go get screen for yourself, for your loved
ones , it's a really easy process .
