North Korea seems pretty adamant about making itself clear to China. that its regime is
ready to talk.
For a second straight day, a North Korean special envoy in Beijing for a visit told
top Chinese officials that the communist state is willing to talk about the recent rise in
tensions in Northeast Asia.
Arirang's Yoo Li-an has our top story. The talks between North Korea and China on Friday,
for the most part, reinforced the points made by both sides the previous day.
North Korea's special envoy to Beijing, Choe Ryong-hae met with China's Vice Chairman of
the Central Military Commission, Fan Changlong on Friday,. according to China's defense ministry.
Choe reportedly reaffirmed the fact that Pyongyang wants to open dialogue with China and related
countries to resolve outstanding issues in the region.
The high-ranking Chinese military official's response basically fell in line with what
Communist Party official Liu Yunshan told Choe a day earlier,. that Beijing remains
committed to a nuclear-free Korean peninsula, and that negotiations are the way to resolve
the problems.
Fan added that North Korea's nuclear develoment program has stoked tensions and threatened
peace in the region.
Choe still hasn't met with Chinese President Xi Jinping, a meeting that some North Korea
watchers believe could take place Friday night.
