Morning 8th Coast Guard District. I've reached the end of my two year tour and I wanted to
take a minute to thank you all for your outstanding service and the tremendous amount of work
you've been doing across our 8th Coast Guard District. Whether you're on a Western river
tender, on an 87-footer along our coast, at an air station, at a sector, or you're a Marine
Inspector flying off to inspect one of the offshore mobile offshore drilling units, thank
you very much for your service. We've taken on a lot of hard work. Whether it was Tropical
Storm Lee that came through, Hurricane Isaac, Highwater, Lowwater, Highwater again, we've
had an awful lot of challenges to take into consideration and respond to. We've also done
an awful lot of Prevention work and prevented many incidents. So your work has been exceptional.
I really appreciate you all taking the operational risk assessment and operational risk management
seriously, looking at your GAR models, and making sure you're reassessing risk so that
your shipmates can be safe throughout not just the beginning but the middle and the
end of each operational mission you carry out. You've done a superb job for the nation
and certainly for this 8th Coast Guard district and I am very much grateful for all of you
that have been on my team. I ask you to continue to work hard, to lead, to continue to respect
each other, and do the things that great shipmates do for each other just as you've done for
me. I'm really proud to have been your 8th Coast Guard district commander and wish you
all continued success. Semper Paratus.
