Can Resveratrol help prevent breast cancer?
A recent research project that was partially funded by the University of Nebraska has found
evidence that resveratrol - a naturally occurring antioxidant found in fruits such as the muscadine
grape - could help to combat estrogen-triggered breast cancer.
Of course many women are surprised when they first read that estrogen could trigger breast
cancer. After all, we reason that estrogen is a natural hormone that is essential for
our reproductive cycle. But an article by Cornell University highlights four ways in
which breast cancer and estrogen can be linked. There's a link to that article below this
video.
In the Nebraska study, researchers found that Resveratrol decreased estrogen metabolism
and blocked formation of DNA adducts in cells treated with estrogen. The abstract for the
study concluded that: "Resveratrol can prevent breast cancer initiation by blocking multiple
sites in the estrogen genotoxicity pathway." There's a link to that article below this
video.
So, what is Resveratrol? Well, it's a natural molecule which forms part of the immune system
of plants such as grapes. In the USA, the strongest source of grape seed resveratrol
is the muscadine grape. The muscadine has over 100 healthy polyphenol molecules which
hundreds of independent studies have shown are beneficial to health.
The muscadine is powerful too. In fact wines made from the muscadine grape can have 100
times more resveratrol than French wines like Pinot Noir.
The Muscadinex health supplement is made from pure muscadine grape seed powder. This means
it contains the full spectrum of polyphenols found in the muscadine. Those polyphenols
- which also include Ellagic acid and Quercetin - are therefore present in Muscadinex in the
same proportion as they are found in the muscadine grape seed. Many scientists believe that it
is the spectrum of antioxidant polyphenols which provide the best results because the
different polyphenols work together in natural harmony.
Muscadinex is made on the Hinnant Family Vineyard in North Carolina. It has a vegetarian capsule
and contains no artifical additivies or bulking agents. It takes the seeds from about five
bunches of muscadines to make each Muscadinex capsule.
Women who are concerned about breast cancer could include Muscadinex as part of their
lifestyle and health strategy. The cost is 50 cents a day.
