Hi everyone! Let's talk a little bit about HTML. I'm
going to review a bit before we jump into HTML.

0:00:08.000,0:00:15.000
I'm going to use some pictures from "Head First
HTML" - a book I like.

HTML stands for HyperText Markup Language and
it's the language of the web.

Most web pages are .html or .htm files, and the
way that you create web pages is that you create
those html pages
and upload them to a server, which we will learn
how to do later.
0:00:40.000,0:00:51.000
In this assignment, you are going to learn how to
type in the html code into a simple text editor like
Notepad.
0:00:51.000,0:01:00.000
That way you'll learn the basics of HTML. Later we
will use Dreamweaver to generate the HTML code,
but it's
0:01:00.000,0:01:00.000
0:01:00.000,0:01:14.000
useful to know more about the code so you will
know its limitations and sometimes edit in
Dreamweaver code view.
0:01:14.000,0:01:21.000
Once those HTML files get uploaded to a web
server, client computers connected to the Internet
0:01:21.000,0:01:27.000
can retrieve those web pages those files using a
browser.
0:01:27.000,0:01:37.000
Cell phones and iPads can view the pages if they
are coded properly.
0:01:37.000,0:01:47.000
A web server is just a regular computer with web
server software
0:01:47.000,0:01:51.000
like Apache or IIS (Internet Information
Server).
0:01:51.000,0:02:00.000
The server stores html, image, sound, video and
other files
0:02:00.000,0:02:01.000
0:02:01.000,0:02:10.000
and the browser requests the files when the user
types in a URL , basically the web address of the
file.
0:02:10.000,0:02:20.000
The web server spits it out out and then the
browser interprets the code in the file.
0:02:20.000,0:02:27.000
Here's where there could be a
problem since there are so many platforms and
browsers.
0:02:27.000,0:02:36.000
We have to make sure the HTML code is properly
written so it will display properly on multiple
platforms, devices, and browsers.
