Welcome to Worship the Lord Bible Study lesson 4. We will be covering to chapters 4 and 5
and beyond chapter 3, Adam and Eve when they were expelled from the Garden of Eden because
of their disobedience to God, ate from the tree in the middle of the garden which he
told them not to eat from. This was the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil and was spiritually
separated from God and their bodies also the decay process. There was a second tree in
the garden called the Tree of Life and it was mercy of God to put them out in the garden
since as they went back in to eat on this tree they would live forever in this sin state.
Now, they will be able to die and their soul would be reunited with
God because Jesus will be our Savior.
Chapter 4: Adam lay with his wife, Eve, and she became pregnant and gave birth to Cain.
She said, “With the help of the Lord, I have brought forth a man.” Later, she gave
birth to his brother, Abel.
You remember what God promise that the seed of the woman would crush the serpents head.
Eve thought that God was fulfilling that promise through Cain. She was mistaken. Cain was no
doubt] but disappointment because they thought they would be able to have communion with
God again and their mistake will be turned around. And name, Cain, means acquired even
the Lord and that is what she said, “I have
By the time they have the second child, Abel, which means vanity and empty, so we realized
that the savior is not coming for a while. We are all born with the sin nature. As a
kid growing up, we can see we do no have to tell them to say no.
When we get into trouble, we had to teach them what is right and wrong and Jesus somehow
lived the perfect life that we are not given details of his early life that but we are
sure Mary knew that he was Messiah.
Now, Abel kept flocks and Cain worked with soil. In the course of time, Cain brought
some of the fruits of the soil as an offering to the Lord, but Abel brought fat portions
from some of the first born of his flock. The Lord looked with favor on Abel and his
offering but on Cain and his offering he did not look with favor, so Cain was very angry
and his face was downcast.
Why Abel’s sacrifice accepted and Cain’s was was rejected? Cain’s offering of fruits
and vegetables of his work seems to be very worthy and later on God saw was different
types of sacrifices in the Book of Leviticus. There was a meat offering which was also a
meal offering and grain offering. What is the difference? Evidently, you have to have
a way. He communicated with them directly and told them what it is needed to do. It
is because Cain offered a crop and the other is a blood sacrifice and in the book of Hebrews.
Now, faith is being sure of what we hoped for and certain of what we do not see. This
is what the ancients were commended for. By faith, we understand that the universe was
formed at God’s command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible.
By faith, Abel offered God a better sacrifice than Cain did. By faith, he was commended
as a righteous man when God spoke well of his offerings and by faith he still speaks
even though he is dead.
With Abel’s sacrifice, it was one of faith. That is the difference, one believing in God
and trusting God and the other not believing and doing things his own way. Cain offered
the works of his hand and was cheerful and prideful. Abel would be sad. You see, he would
have to kill one of his animals. The lamb sacrifice is showing that sin is ugly and
here we have a lamb slained for a man. In Exodus 12, it is a lamb for a family during
the Passover when they were in Egypt. They took the blood and put it on the door and
looked like a cross. In Leviticus, he would then have a lamb for a nation as sacrifice
and YOM KIPPUR and Jesus will be the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world.
Now, we see a conversation between Cain and God in verse 6.
Then the Lord said to Cain. “Why are you angry? Why is your face downcast? If you do
what is right, will you not be accepted but if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching
at your door. It desires to have you but you must master IT.” God is giving Cain second
chance saying if you do the right thing now, I will accept you. He is encouraging him to
do the right thing. If you do well, it will be accepted. Cain is depressed, angry, and
bitter. But when we hang on to these things and does bring it on our countenance down,
unforgiveness of something that is someone has done to you only winds up hurting you
again doing the same here if you just apologize and turn around to do the right thing, you
will be lifted up for us. That means of what doing things against God’s word. We always
have the choice to stop, make a U-TURN and go away from that and pray to God to take
that out of our lives.
Now, Cain said to his brother, Abel. “Let’s go out to the field.” And while they were
in the field, Cain attacked his brother, Abel, and killed him. Then the Lord sent to Cain.
“Where is your brother, Abel?” “I don’t know,” he replied. “Am I my brother’s
keeper?” The Lord said, “What have you done? Listen, your brother’s blood cries
out to me from the ground.”
So, you see like Cain decided to hang on to his anger and go back and do it over. He takes
it out on his brother. The same way, God questioned Adam and Eve. It comes the questions Cain
knows little things but he still asked questions, not for information, but to get confession
and again Cain tell us to pass on what happened with a lie and he missed his chance to be
forgiven. He wanted confession and with us why is that we want to place fault and blame
with something else rather than saying it is my responsibility. Something goes wrong.
It is a natural thing to say it well I made this mistake and you have fill in the blank.
This person did this fill in the blank in a work situation. We will there is a penalty
when it comes to Cain. The words of your brother’s blood and the Hebrew the word for blood is
bloods which means not just the blood of one man but of everyone of his descendants that
would have been. the Hebrews said if you kill a man, you kill a whole world and those have
helped. In World War II, anyone who had helped a Hebrew person, they have a tree planted
to his name representing the help of that person that kept that family tree go on. Now,
we find out the curse of Cain.
“Now, you were under a curse and driven from the ground which opened its mouth to
receive your brother’s blood from your hand. When you worked the ground, it will no longer
yield its crops for you. You will be a restless wanderer on the earth.”
Cain said to the Lord, “My punishment is more than I can bear. Today, you are driving
from the land and I will be hidden from your presence. I will be a restless wanderer on
the earth and whoever finds me will kill me.” But the Lord said to him, “Not so if anyone
kills Cain He will suffer vengeance seven times over.” Then the Lord put a mark on
Cain, so that no one who found him would kill him. So Cain went out from the Lord’s presence
and lived in the land of Nod, east of Eden.
When you looked at the response of Cain, he has still not asking Him for forgiveness.
He is just saying that is not fair and I do not want to have anything to do with your
kind. He is just caring about himself and even with that. God still put some word that
will protect Abel showing his type of Christ. One, he was a shepherd of sheep and animals.
Christ is our shepherd. Two, Abel did the priestly thing doing the sacrifice the way
to become one in Jesus is only one and only high priest. No mediator in between. Abel
was hated by his brother Cain. Jesus was not accepted by his brothers and hated by the
religious leaders and still not accepted by many people. What happens to Cain, he was
also to be the one who is in the priestly line but he did not do the right thing. Judas
was one of the 12 apostles and what he did he betrayed Jesus. He would have been exalted
in the kingdom of heaven, so we see that Cain went out from the Lord’s presence and lived
in the Land of Nod, east of Eden, wandering but also he was a farmer and that the land
yields a great fruit and abundance. God now says that is not going to be so easy. You
are going to work harder to get your food and fruits. May be he is still trying to reach
him spiritually saying you can work all you want but you have to apologize. You simply
confess them to me and that is how many people are today. They do all goods things. They
think the good will outweigh the bad and they are okay with God.
Cain lay with his wife and she became pregnant and gave birth to Enoch. Cain was then building
a city and he named it after his son, Enoch.
Now, we always get to be questioned where did Cain gets his wife. The genealogy given
in the Bible is not complete. The Lord is only interested in one line and that is the
line that comes from Abraham to David to Christ. None of the rest is really important, so there
will be many people and descendants of Adam and Eve but they were one year old and had
a child of two or three years and they live for 900 years. That will be a lot of people,
so all the sons and daughters are not listed. When we get to chapter 5, we will see some
of the names but it is only following the one line that brings us from Abraham to Jesus.
At the time Cain kills his brother, they are probably about 120 years old, many brothers
and sisters. Now, they would be able to marry each other. They were much purer DNA . You
would not have the problems of intermarriage between brothers and sisters with dramatic
difficulties today. Now, we do see in the Bible that there is a line that follows Cain’s
descendants for a little while before getting to Noah and the flood. where it is very interesting
than the names of the people listed showing the way of Cain as he is going away from God
and on his own. and then in the Book of Jude, it says woe to them, they have taken the way
of Cain when he was warning about people coming into the church, and not really doing what
God wants them to do, not wanting the blessings of God and that is what Cain wants and he
just feels that it is not fair, it’s unfair and that is what people ask today. How can
a loving God and let bad things that happen, it is not fair. You always hear that, so it
started in Genesis and still exists now.
Cain lay with his wife and she became pregnant and gave birth to Enoch. Cain was then building
a city and he named it after his son, Enoch.
Enoch means dedicated and so he dedicates his city to his son not to God in verse 18.
To Enoch was born Irad, which means fugitive and wild donkey, so we see a downward progression.
And Irad was the father of Mehujael, which means blotting out the Lord, his God.
And Mehujael was the father of Methusael. And his name is “they are dead who are of
God”.
And Methusael was the father of Lamech. Which means poor and lowly, so if you read that
Cain has a son Enoch. He dedicates his city to him and has a son, fugitive and wild donkey
and God said they said they would roam the land. Then they blotted out and Lord is God,
and then they are dead who are of God leading to the leading to them being poor and lowly
in verse 19.
Lamech married two women, one named Adah and the other Zillah.
Lamech married two women. First, multi wife marriage mentioned in the Bible. We do not
see Adam and Eve listed with other partner, but this has an interesting meaning to it
0when we looked in the names of his two wives. One was named Adah which means ornament and
the other was Zillah which means shabbiness or undesirable. Now, an ornament is something,
pretty and desired and shining and it gets attention. My daughter can be in a store,
would see something shiny and then she just want them and goes right to it. I told her
that’s how some people catch fish as well with their shiny lure. and the other Zillah
which means undesirable, so he has two wives, one he loves more than the other just like
Jacob when he falls in love with Rachel because the way she looks and he worked seven years
to get her and then he gets Leah, the first one, with another 7 years to get married Rachel
to. We see in Genesis that he always loved Rachel more and Leah goes unloved and she
is the today you have to protect our own relationships if you saw it combining with someone with
the opposite sex and they can become more appealing to you.
Adah gave birth to Jabal. He was the father of those who live in tents and raised livestock.
Now, he is going to produce cow, be independent and make money selling cow.
His brother’s name was Jubah. He was the father of all who played the harp and flute.
In the early development of insolence not to play with all your kind but to make money
by playing and entertainment.
Zillah also had a son, Tubal-Cain, who affords all kinds of tools out of bronze and iron.
Iron is for the military weapons to control and conquer people. Now, we are using iron
and smelting. It was interesting until the time of David of Israel and on advanced in
this area and the enemies would come with ironed chariot and Israel was a great disadvantage.
It was until King Solomon that they began to smoke and to use or not.
Tubal-Cain’s sister was Naamah.
Naamah’s name means pleasant. It is the only good thing in Enoch’s line.
Naamah said to his wives, “Adah and Zillah listen to me. Wives of Lamech hear my words.
I have killed the man for wounding me, a young man for injuring me. If Cain is avenged seven
times then Lamech seventy-seven times.”
It is an interesting figure 77 times and Jesus said to forgive used the same in Matthew 18-22.
Then Peter came to the Jesus and asked, “Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother
when he sins against me? Up to seven times?” Jesus answered, “I tell you not 7 times
but 77 times.” But this was forgiveness. Lamech is using him for revenge and see the
difference in these two lines. We see who replaces Abel and the kingly line of the Messiah.
Adam lay with his wife again and she gave birth to a son and named him, Seth, saying,
“God has granted me another child in place of Abel since Cain killed him.” Seth also
had a son and he named him, Enosh. At that time, men began to call in the name of the
Lord.
Genesis chapter 5 as a bridge from the beginning of things to the flood and Noah. Prior to
the flood, men’s life expectancy was much greater. It was almost thousand years. With
this, we looked and the closest is 969 and we are seeing the earth was protected by the
a water blanket prior to the flood. This would protect us from all the outer environment
UV RAYS of the sun when we talked about this fact. Genesis chapter 1. So, now we have the
Book of Generations, the line of Seth to Noah. And see some interesting things. It is rare
today that people get to see their great, great grandmother. Adam would see all the
way down to his ninth generation and also will look at the meaning of the names of each
persons.
Chapter 5: This is the written account of Adam’s line. When God created man, he made
him in the likeness of God. He created them male and female and blessed them and when
they were created He called them man. When Adam had lived 130 years, he had a son in
his own likeness, in his own image and he named him Seth. After Seth was born, Adam
lived 800 years and had other sons and daughters. Altogether, Adam lived 930 years and then
he died.
Adam’s name means man and he will live to see all the way down to his ninth generation.
Lamech would hear the story of the Garden of Eden directly from Adam.
When Seth had live 105 years, he became the father of Enosh and after he became the father
of Enosh, Seth lived 807 years and had other sons and daughters. Altogether, Seth lived
912 years and then he died. Seth’s name means appointed and he had lived to see to
his ninth generation. Lamech was the father of Noah.
When Enosh had lived 90 years, he became the father of Kenan and after he became the father
of Kenan, Enosh lived 815 years and had other sons and daughters. Altogether, Enosh lived
905 years and then he died.
Enosh’ name means mortal man and he had lived to see Noah.
When Kenan had lived 70 years, he became the father of Mahalalel, and after he became the
father of Mahalel, Kenan lived 840 years and had other sons and daughters. Altogether,
Kenan lived 910 years and then he died.
Kenan’s name means sorrow.
When Mahalalel had lived 65 years, he became the father of Jared and after he became the
father of Jared, Mahalalel lived 830 years and had other sons and daughters. Altogether,
Mahalalel lived 895 years and then he died.
Mahalalel’s name means praise of God or Yahweh.
When Jared had lived 162 years, he became the father of Enoch and after he became the
father of Enoch, Jared lived 800 years and had other sons and daughters. Altogether,
Jared lived 962 years and then he died.
Jared’s name means came down.
When Enoch had lived 65 years, he became the father of Methusaleh and after he became the
father of Methusaleh, Enoch walked with God 300 years and had other sons. Enoch walked
with God then he was no more because God took him away.
Enoch’s name means dedicated or initiating.
When Muthesaleh had lived 187 years, he became the father of Lamech and after he became the
father of Lamech, Methusaleh lives 782 years and had other sons and daughters. Altogether,
Methusaleh lived 969 years and then he died.
Methusaleh’s name means his death will bring.
When Lamech had lived 182 years, he had a son, he named him Noah and said, “He will
comfort us in the labor and painful toil of our hands caused by the ground the Lord has
cursed.” After Noah was born, Lamech lived 595 years and had other sons and daughters.
Altogether, Lamech lived 777 years and then he died.
Lamech’s name means poor, lowly and is despairing.
After Noah was 500 years old, he became the father of Shem, Ham and Japheth.
In the tenth generation, Noah’s name means rest and comfort. There are two things we
see here that Adam’s son, Seth, and Seth’s son, Enosh, would live all the way until the
time of Noah, so we can see that these generations are not too far removed in the stories would
be passed down the garden of Eden and everything with the exception of Enoch who walked with
God and then was taken UP and that is a picture of the rapture and who we taken up before
the tribulation. Enoch was taken out before the flood. The 10 names when you look at the
meaning of the names of each person give the gospel this is how it was written would be
men appointed being mortal and sorrowful and then the blessed one came down initiated in
his death shall bring the poor, lowly and despairing, rest and comfort. So, we see the
promise of Jesus just in the name. Seth’s name means appointed. We see Genesis 4:26
that men began to call by name of Jehovah or Yahweh. Cain’s line it was what they
did. People asked you what you do. Seth is who are identity is in. There is a God. It
reminds me of the 1980 Olympic hockey team moving miracle on ice with Herb Brooks takes
his college hockey kids from all over the country and played against each other and
at the end of the practice, he makes them skate and asked them who do you play for ?and
finally Mike Erozione gets it and shouts I play for the USA. Once he was able to get
them to give up their identity, of where they went to college. They could then play as a
team and they did great things. Much like Jesus did who took all disciples from different
backgrounds but when their identity was of Christ they did miraculously things. And as
Christians we are the same. All coming from different backgrounds and types., but our
identity should not be what we do, at what career what we doing ministry. It should be
in Jesus Christ.
