Welcome to Tutorial 4, Drawing the Garden Bench.
We should all have our garden bench drawn it should look something like this, possibly minus the shadowing.
Now we are in right isometric.
What we are going to do is set up different views or sheets, those two terms can be used interchangeably.
We are going to set up a sheet for the model, for the parts and the schedule that lists the parts.
The first thing you want to do is “fit to page area” so the sheet fills the screen.
Now go to save view and save as “3D View”. Set everything as I have
I am going to deselect “save render mode and options” because I want to change that later.
The active layer is “Model”
Now let’s go to classes and turn on as I have it.
Let’s go ahead and save it.
I drew everything on the none layer, just like I told you not to do, so now I’m going to put all of the bench parts on the proper layer.
I just noticed that we need to draw in the arm supports, so I will go to front view, use the polygon tool and draw one.
Now I will put it in place, go to wire frame so that I can see what I’m doing. Then mirror duplicate and move forward.
Let’s put the arm supports on the arm class.
Now we will create a view called parts.
Leave the settings the same except for “Save Orientation”.
On this one we will make Plan View the active class. Turn on the layers as I have done.
Just remember that these names are names only, they don’t change the actual view.
You must do that in the standard view pull down.
Set up your classes like mine then click ok. Now go up to the saved views menu and select Parts.
While I’m on this page I’m going to save the standard view to Plan View, and go back to the model sheet.
Now I will select an arm. Control C (Command C).
Now go back to the parts sheet and press Control V (Command V) and there is the arm.
I will mirror it so that I have both arms, and now do the rest of the parts in the view they are best viewed in.
The seat front should also be shown in plan view so it’s next.
Now I’ll bring in the left side view of the bench.
Remember we set “Plan View” as the active layer so every time we come back to this sheet will be the active layer.
So when you bring in the parts from another sheet the steps you take need to be in the same order.
I’m going to bring in the left view of the bench, so I go back to the model sheet and select all, then control C.
Then go back to the Parts sheet and change the layer to 3D Side and make sure that the standard view is set to Left Side.
Then select Control V and there it is.
Now since the model is still on my clipboard all I have to do is change the layer to 3D Iso change
the standard view to to left iso and select Control V.
Now it’s your turn to draw in the rest of the parts. Don’t worry about dimensioning we will do that on our next video. Have fun!
