You know about soap right?
Yes sir, we know.
We use soap for face, body and also for washing cloths.
Do you know how these soaps are made? No sir.
Soaps are usually made using oil and fat.
Now fats and oils - do you know the difference between the two? No sir.
At room temperature, what ever is in liquid form, we call them as OILS.
At room temperature, whatever is in solid form, we call them as FAT.
Can you thing of some examples?
Examples of Oils are Coconut oil, peanut oil, castor oil. Right.
Now examples of FAT?
Dalda and Ghee Right.
Dalda and Ghee have more solid particles therefore,
you will find them in solid state in room temperature.
Now with the help of these oil and fat we will make soap using a process called saponification.
Do you want body soap or laundry soap?
Body soap Okay body soap it is.
Ok. If it body soap we will use Potassium Hydroxide
If it is for laundry soap, we use Sodium Hydroxide.
Now, we will use Potassium Hydroxide to make the soap.
First, we need to place this coconut oil on the tripod.
We will need to heat up the coconut oil nicely.
You see now that the coconut oil is getting heated.
In the meanwhile, we will take this potassium hydroxide
and make a potassium hydroxide solution.
At that time, very carefully, you should add potassium hydroxide solution, drop by drop into the oil to make soap.
Now we will use this glass rod and very slowly add the solution drop by drop.
What will happen if we add all at once?
Have you noticed at home what happens when you add water to it?
The oil overflows. Yes, that is why we will have to add it very slowly.
Just move away a little.
As we pour we need to constantly stir the liquid.
Just as you stir when you make jaggary syrup at home.
As you keep noticing you will notice two layers. Do you see them?
Yes. One at the bottom and another at the top.
The layer on top is the soap.
The layer at the bottom is glycerin.
In order to separate the two layers...
The soap that you see now, you can use at it is but..
