Hi, I'm Magpie Shine. I hope to do a few videos about my thoughts on My Little Pony, so I
thought "Daring Don't" would be an easy one for me to start out with. At first, I really,
really loved this episode, but when I forced myself to stop fangirling over it and take
a closer look at it, which was a challenge, but after looking at it, it's not as great
as I thought. Still, I've always enjoyed Rainbow Dash's
episodes, and in this one we managed to see the really obsessive side of her. She seems
more obsessed with Daring Do than with being a Wonderbolt, which makes me wonder if she
might actually be better at writing if she had tried it as a filly instead of flying.
Then again, the Wonderbolts Academy might have showed her that the Wonderbolts are not
as great as she built them up to be, which caused her to obsess more over Daring Do.
Applejack's dancing is amazing. I thought it was a bit odd that A. K. Yearling
didn't notice that Princess Twilight herself was in the house. She probably would've been
a lot friendlier if Twi had introduced herself. And, honestly this episode makes me like Twilight
a lot less in general. She does nothing to help Daring when these guys attack, and is
more concerned about Rainbow being rude than about a pony whose house was just completely
ransacked. It doesn't matter if A. K. Yearling is the famous Daring Do. If a pony is attacked,
especially if they're being attacked by three stallions, and they're only one pony, you
do not just watch. You help. Also, Daring Do and Rainbow Dash should have
the same voice actors. They are similar in every aspect except for this, and honestly,
I was really disappointed at that. I was a bit upset when something like this
didn't happen, but I guess it wasn't likely in the first place. With Daring Do always
going on adventures and being attacked by guys like these, I honestly don't think she
would have time to write books about it, nor do I think she would be talented enough to
write books about it. You can't have two special talents. Unless you're Pinkie Pie. Or Apple
Bloom. And she told Rainbow Dash that they couldn't
work together because it involved secrets, you didn't know who you could trust, blah,
blah, blah. But she writes these books and these books, if they were completely mysterious,
they would not be interesting. They had to include the secrets. If the books have the
secrets, Rainbow Dash already knows them, and her argument is invalid.
And also.... Daring can fly. The cats cannot. This fight is useless.
Daring Do as a character reminds me a lot of Gilda in that she is very proud and determined
to remain cool and distant. Even when hurt or when she was saved, she refuses to swallow
her pride.... At least until this crappy and horribly rushed ending. That's my only comment.
It's not okay. Who wrote this episode? Dave Polsky? Please, please do not do something
like this again. I'm normally okay with quick plots. I mean, I loved Magical Mystery Cure.
But this is something else entirely.
