Hi! Its Rachel Coleman from Signing Time with more Signing Time stories. We're going
back to my vault,
my laptop vault.
uh... October 18th, 2002.
We have a mom who sent me a
message. First she called, and I use to answer the phone back then, "Two Little Hands,
this is Rachel!"
and it was fine because nobody had seen the show, so it didn't really matter.
She had seen the show
and then she sent me this message
and about her son saying "its been amazing to see the changes in my son,
especially in the development of his speech since he's been able to sign.
Thanks for making such a great product."
She said "I was concerned that I was starting sign language too late with him.
We picked up your tape when he was 16 months old and now he's 20
months old and he's been signing proficiently for two to three months.
He's learning so quickly as we teach other signs, it only takes a matter of
minutes and he's got it.
And this is why I want more tapes. [this, at this point we only had the first one]
He loves the music
and children and I know it's doing great things for his brain. Sorry for the
rambling, I just want you to know what a difference it is making in our lives. Carrie."
So we've got some more. This one is more recent. Let's see.
2006. Really,
these, I brought these from my house. These are things that I have at home
and then we have
probably
two to three more cases have been here at the office.
ummm
This is, ahh,
I love this one.
Some great, some just great stories.
Dear Rachel Coleman, I thought I'd write a letter about Signing Time. I learned
about it from a friend.
I ordered volumes one through three and four through six.
My daughter had learned some signs but she hadn't really tried signing with Signing
Time.
I first put it in and she wasn't used to it and she was seventeen months old.
She would talk to the TV
and then she signed milk. I was stunned when she did it. The rest is history.
My husband, Dan, is hearing
and he's been learning to sign. So they've been watching together and it helps him
too. I'd ask him what he thinks of it and he says it's good. Well, in my opinion
it's fantastic! It's so worth it!
My older daughter is hearing and she's learned some signs
and she's 22 years old.
I didn't think that my youngest would learn any signs even though I've signed with her a
lot when I communicate.
I am deaf, a deaf mom, a first time mom, let me tell you, I think it's so
awesome that you
created this for any child
and for adults. I would say it's a miracle. So thank you for Signing Time.
I'm gonna order a t-shirt that says "Signing Time" on it for me and for my little
princess and I want you to know that I recommend you these to everyone, which is
everyone who needs it.
Thanks again."
And this is one of my favorite, favorite letters that I've received.
uh... it's and hero report
from 2008.
My hero, is my mom.
Her name is Rachel de Azevedo Coleman.
She married Aaron Coleman and has two daughters.
Leah is 11
and Lucy is 7,
almost 8.
My mom is my hero because she's helped me reach my dreams, so has my dad.
My mom has helped me and other deaf kids and hearing kids and their parents learn
sign language
and I've learned many things from my parents.
When I was young, I played soccer but nobody wanted to be my friend.
When a boy that got paired up with me said, "I don't wanna be with her and
she can't talk"
my mom changed that. And she went to his class and taught sign language there.
After that, the kids wanted to be my friends.
I choose my mom as my hero because I thought it would be good share the
things that she helped me with.
My mom, like all other moms, has played an important role
in my life.
My mom has helped me succeed in every way and helps me solve my problems.
Can you imagine being a mother whose first daughter is deaf
and whose second daughter
is in a wheelchair?
Well, that's my mom.
I'm deaf and Lucy has spina bifida
and that's why my mom is my hero."
