I was born in Estonia,
in a small town called Haapsalu.
Scotland Yard had contacted our legation to find people that know the coast
and were able to go and pick up people that needed to get out.
They had sent two boats before and Germans caught them
but I knew the coast so well that we made it.
He had little wooden cars, little trucks,
and we were moving sand around from one place to the other.
I don't know why I remembered that right now, but I did.
Between Samoa and Tonga we hit the storm, probably like 70 knot winds, maybe.
We accidentally came about and hove to which means one sail pulls one way, one pulls the other way,
you're not going anywhere, you're staying in one place
and it's so quiet, everything dies down.
We stayed two days there, just bobbing.
She was five years younger, you know, 21 to 16.
I made fun of her, but I liked her.
Been married since.
From a young age I'd always been kind of interested
because I'd heard about his life before coming to the States and growing up in Estonia
but I didn't quite have a chronological order of how the stories fell into place, you know, within his life
and now I have it.
