Thinking of a Career in Insurance?

Peter Allen, a broker at RKH, looks back on his own experiences and gives us his advice on how to make it in insurance.

My first tip, to anybody looking to join the insurance industry, is building up a good network. Essentially, at some point, you know you're going to need to pass your CV on to someone who you hope will be able to get you that ideal job that you want, and the more people you know in the industry, the much better chance you have of eventually getting that job. My second tip is speak to everyone like they're your boss. You never know who you're going to meet. I was in the lift one day, chatting to a lovely chap, and I didn't even realize he was the CEO of our company. My third tip is research. Whatever ideal job you want, whatever you're passionate about, you need to know something about it. Eventually you're going to have to have a conversation with someone and prove to them that you could do well in the industry. So yeah, get on the Internet, Google everything. Do all your background research, and that's going to help you push to get that job you want.
