- Just in case you are stayed tuned on... Record TV news
... as on Globo TV you'll have a fast 20 second note of it
between soccer news and soap opera
whose opening theme music is exciting!
[Soap Opera's Music Opening Theme]
- The Olympic Games in London will happen this year
in England
- Land of the queen, the 5 o'clock tea...
... land of the best cars tv show ever: Top Gear.
and land of people who speak like:
[british accent] - Hello, Good Evening!
- Rather than tea, do you believe I should drink coffee?
- Brazil will likely be in 18th with 5 gold medal, 7 silvers
18 bronze and 465 4th place...
besides, the time when people will be aware of our country
giving importancy only to soccer...
while we see our athlets going to the games without
any support, trying to reach their objectives the best way possible.
- Above all, I got excited by the Olympic Games as
you'll cheer for athlets from countless variety of sports
which excites me more than even the World Cup
- Anyways... the official broadcaster is on the climate of the games!
- It was inserted the Olympic logo below a volley ball
- That actually is the logo!
- Let's get it straight!
- Besides Record, there are more 4 tv network...
... broadcasting the games! One of them will include 4 HD channels!
... besides ESPN and BandSports.
- And FLAGAMER couldn't let it go!
- We've picked up some games about Olympic Games
- We won't be mentioning all of them as they're over 50...
- But we'll mention just those games which I played
through my childhood.
- Not forgetting the first Olympic-themed sport game ever
released over 25 years ago...
... which you'll watch it now!
- 1983: the year of the Crash of the videogames
due to the massive production of bad-quality games
- However, Konami has just created a franchise
that will last up to the current days
on iPhones.
- It's Track and Field
or known in Japan as Hyper Olympics
... released on NES, Atari 2600, Commodore 64, MSX
and other consoles at that time.
- It's true that there were few sports on this game
- However it kicked off a new trend of making games
that you must press two buttons simultaneously to make him
run faster!
- Plus, the graphics are charming for whoever used to PacMan
- Olympic Gold Barcelona '92 has been my first Olympic-themed
game I've ever played
on my Genesis emulator.
- Something curious at the beginning of the game
- There was brazilian portuguese language available
- It goes without saying that Megadrive used to sell like water
those days within Brazilian territory.
- There were 4 charactes to be chosen to compete on the games
such as 100m sprint
shot put, archery...
110m hurdles
pole vault
diving and just to finish, 100m freestyle
- Seven sports in total.
whose controls are harder and harder in each sport
- You must have the instruction manual or you won't know
what buttons to be pressed.
- It's remarkable the graphics evolution in 16-bits generation
- I remembered now that this actually wasn't my first game
- My memory betrayed me!
- However, it was worth it reviewing this game.
- Now, the actual first olympic game I've ever played:
- Accolade is in charge just of the Test Drive franchise
a blockbuster in the 90s.
- It was settled up to make a game about Olympics.
- In 1991 it was released Summer Challenge.
- The graphics was well worked out then.
- Some new sports had been added
before that, we'll watch the charming opening ceremony!
- Unlike the timeless real opening ceremony...
it last 2h47min less than the actual ceremony
- Just three minutes of the Olympic torch being lighted up!
- Later, you will be able to play new sports as Equestrian
Kayak and Cycling
- As in the previous game, I should be a fortune teller to figure out
the controls
- The gameplay on Kayak was torturous
- I got 4 minutes penalty just because of some missed gates.
- And on Cycling, 52 seconds took forever!
- I couldn't stand pressing A and B any longer!
- There are some hints in some challenges.
- You must find out the perfect timing on high jump...
- or the least of the worries would be hitting the bar
- You might have some lumbar issues too!
- However, I had some great time in some sports by
the time I was 12 in 2005.
- Accolade also invested on Winter games such as Winter Challenge
released in 1992.
- The gameplay is the same s...
as Summer Challenge.
- Besides, I've already played the Winter Olympics...
... Game Lillehammer (It beats me the correct pronunciation)
...94'. Another game with brazilian portuguese language available
despite of dreadful grammar mistakes such as
''disclassiLIVERed''
- It's also possible to select Brazil among available countries
in spite of not having any tradition in the Winter Games
due to geographic reasons.
- I had some coordination issues on turning left-right on skiing.
- Besides, whenever I must shoot the target on Biathlon...
... even the most CoD addicted player couldn't hit at the target!
- And the last Winter Games I've played was
Nagano Winter Olympics '98 for Nintendo 64.
- Going back to the Summer Games...
the last 16-bit generation Olympic-themed I've played was
the Olympic Summer Games '96
- The gameplay was tricky
demanding perfect timing.
- There was at least one upside in this game:
- Soundtrack!
- Only on ps1 I could play Track&Field for the first time
in Intl. Track'n Field 2000 version.
- It would be the first 3D Olympic-themed sport game I've ever played.
- It was realistic in my opinion, then.
- There was a Nintendo 64 version available too.
not to mention a narrator saying your results.
Which I thought superb!
- I've only played 2 Olympic-themed games on ps2.
- Simultaneously, after ps2 had been released in 2000...
...ESPN Intl. Track & Field came to the stores.
- Interesting was the fact this had been in CD version rather than DVD
- There were 10 sports in total
- You couldn't tell apart its graphics to a ps1 version.
- Also the game showed the motion-capture technique
used to make this game!
- At last not least important, ever since 32-bits generation...
... video tutorials explaining the controls of each sport has been available...
...not having to browse into manuals, fortune-teller or even GameFAQ.com any longer!
- The latest ps2 game I've ever played was Summer Athletics
- There were 30 sports in different categories in total.
- Graphics were great, making you feel like in a Olympic Games
- You could even create your athlete!
- Gameplay is slightly different:
- It wasn't worth smashing two buttons like crazy
...as it's been for the last 20 years.
- It was the newest game I've ever played.
- I didn't have the chance to play a 7th generation Olympic-themed game...
...Although there are some games as 2008 Beijing
The Official Videogame of the Olympic Games
for ps3, xbox 360 and PC.
- I tended to buy it but considering the fact a 150 USD game
that cost in 2008...
... I settled up not buying a 'clearless' game.
- If you think nowadays games are expensive, go back to 2008
in Brazil and see how cheap and variety games were.
- Also a Olympic arcade game Mario&Sonic at the Olympic Games
for Wii and DS.
- By the way, there has already been a 2012 version...
...in London with new modalities.
- Between both games I'd rather the latter one
despite being childish, the factit's ludic, it'd make original and funnier.
- Therefore, if you wanna buy a Olympic-themed game...
you should wait at least two years.
- Due to the Games, there will be many people searching for it
- So, those games will be pricey!
- After some years, you'll be able to buy the same game in
a lower price, a bargain!
- It's the Supply and Demand theory!
- This works in another sports game such as soccer
- The game of the current year costs a bundle whereas after a year
the previous game would cost much cheaper
- Racing games works like that too! So if you wanna buy
a Olympic Videogame, I'd suggest doing that
- I hope you liked this special Olympic video.
- See you next time. Bye!
