If your son or daughter has been bullied or injured by another student at school, how
long do you have to bring a claim for those injuries against the school? Hi. My name is
Jonathan Macri and I’m here to talk to you a little bit today about the time limits that
are involved in bringing a claim or a lawsuit against the school where an injury may have
occurred to your son or your daughter. Now, bullying happens in schools every day. And
a lot of times, that bullying result in some pretty significant and serious injuries whether
that injury is as obvious as a black eye – that may result in vision problems – or something
as subtle as psychological problems, which may develop over the course of time. What
I’m here to talk to you about today is specifically the time frame that you have to bring a claim.
Now, the school that your son or daughter goes to is more likely than not run by the
city or the state of New York. And New York has very specific laws when it comes to the
time that you have to bring a claim against, not only a city or a school of New York, but
anyone of the municipalities of New York (let’s say the police department or something else).
Now, I want to be very clear right now and tell you from the outset that I don’t want
you to rely on the information that I’m giving you in this video. Now why would I
say that? Well, let’s look at it like this. Today is May 30th, 2012. Now today, the law
in New York is that you have 90 days from the point in time that the injury occurred
to bring a claim against the city of New York. But guess what? Tomorrow, May 31st, 2012,
that time may change for you depending on what your particular scenario is. And if you
watch this video tomorrow, a week from now, a month from now, a year from now, that time
frame may change. What I want you to do is to give me a call. Again, my name is Jonathan
Macri and here at Parker Waichman we – and me in particular – answer questions about
time frames of when you can bring a claim against a school every day. The only way for
you to know whether your claim is timely is to pick up the phone and give me a call at
the number that should be appearing on your screen right now. Once again, my name is Jonathan
Macri. I want you to have a great day.
