So here we have our lid. It's not been cut off the bat, it's still attached, so we can
check how it fits. As you can see, it's just a little too big. It doesn't actually sit
down in the area where it's supposed to; it sits on top. So we're going to take this and
put it on the wheel. The bats are not usually perfectly on center, so you want to spin it
and see if you have it the right direction. And oftentimes you're going to have to switch
it and put the bat pins a hundred and eighty degrees. See, that's more on center than it
was the first time. Now, to trim, you use something called a ribbon tool. They come
in a variety of shapes and sizes. I like the standard rounded on one side, squared on another.
The smaller they are, the more action on them you get. The wider ones are better for smoothing,
but they're not as good for cutting, which is what we're trying to do right now. So I'm
going to take this tool, it's called a ribbon tool because it makes a ribbon of clay shooting
off like that. And I'm just going to trim a little bit off of this lid. I don't want
to take too much because it wasn't too large to begin with. So I'll do a little bit, and
then I'll check it. It's still a tiny bit too big. So we put it back on the wheel and
trim it just a little more. This should probably fit. And it does. That's just right. So next
I will show you how to trim the lid itself.
