Annyeong, boys and girls! You're watching another episode of...
I bet you know what you're watching, right?
None could think about it, but today we gonna talk about SNSD's album 'The boys'.
Loads of viewers asked us to make more episodes about girl groups.
As we've been only talking about men, men, men...
So, after GaIn's episode we decided to stick with female vocals a bit more.
Some like SNSD, some hate 'em, some criticize.
But undoubtedly everyone knows them.
There are 9 (!) members and they made their official debut in 2007 under SM Enterteinment.
Their popularity started to grow especially rapidly after the music video and single of the same name 'Gee' was released.
Then they debuted in Japan, every new song was more successful then the previous one and 1000s of ads offers and contracts.
At first, SM promised to release this album on October, 5th, 2011 on iTunes store, where one could buy and download it.
But one week befor the set datу it was announced, that album's release will be postponed...
September, 2011
SM ENT. headquarters
Aish... I'm sick and tired of how each and everyone debuts in the US.
Am I worse than them? Have to prove who's the man in here and send my girls to the states!
There are 9 of them! They'll kick *** out there.
And I'll earn a few millions for myself, which is also not bad.
What was I talking about? Right! A conquest of the states! Muahahaha!
Wait... why only the states? I have to conquer the whole world! Muahahaha!
Mister President, but what do we do with those 1 million CD copies that do not include an american version of the song?
Damn it...
So, as it turned out, release was delayed but not for too long.
'Cos already on the 19th of October this album got on sale. And the girls made their comeback on the 21st.
That was something unreal!
It was obvious right from the start that with tis very song you can successfully debut in the US.
And the girls were signed with american lable Interscope records.
Just a few minutes after 'the Boys' was released it toped all the main Korean music charts.
All in all, the girls won a triple crown on Inkigayo, and got a total of 12 wins on other music shows.
Only in Korea the sales of the albums went over 250.000 copies on first two week.
One of the group' members, Tiffany, took part in composing the title track of the album - 'The Boys' .
But the main work in production of this song was made by Teddy Riley.
He's a producer of the korean girl group Rania and an ex-producer of Michael Jackson himself.
To tell you frankly, I've never been a big fan of SNSD.
They was kinda too blank for me and I couldn't find much kick in them.
After 'The Boys' was released my world has been turned upside down.
I've been literally swimming in all that kick they've shown. And I was pleasantly surprised by what the girls had in store for us.
But what made me even more surprised, that many fans were disappointed by the new concept.
They wrote smth like: 'meeeh, it's not SNSD as I used to know them', 'the album sucks'.
OK. But what about the group's developing in other styles? Trying smth new?
All the more so, that this album was mostly planned to be an american one.
Which means 'for highly competitive music market'.
So, different countries require different approach.
Careful fans might have noticed, that groups' Japanese and Korean concepts often are quite different.
Talking about title track... It's a bit like urban-pop with some splashes of electro.
The only call-down. 'The boys' seemed to me a bit too abrupt while turning from verse into chorus.
And just as usual, my personal fave song of the album is not the title one.
There won't ever be music vidios for them. No one will talk about them, but us.
I do like a lot 'Telepathy', which SNSD themselves, by the way, pronounce as TelepATHY.
My second fave song is 'Lazy girl' written by Taeyeon.
MV for 'the boys' has been filmed in SM's best canons.
I only need a monocle in this scene.
Already in the into of the video everything is epic.
Yoona, who got lost in Antarctica wearing expensive Haute Couture dress...
[ain't cha cold, darling?]
Falling rose petals... flying dove... and a bit more of Yoona... and a bit more of a big white box.
And when the video itself begins it becomes obvious that show 'Asia next top model' meets 'Dancing on stars...'
Or, maybe, that it is an ad of spme kind of a magiс stone.
BUY. OUR. STONE!
And only adorable outfits, gorgeous ladies and dances flash right in your eyes.
Something about the dance. It's punch line is so called 'bridge', when the girls drop down in half-split.
They uniquely show who's the boss in da 'box'.
Enough! I can do that too! I'm strong enough!
Girls, bring the boys out!
The looks' number for each member in this video surprised me dramatically. In a good way.
Finally, each of them has her own individual image and outfit.
However, it has a little 'but' in it...
When it comes to groups with more than 5 members in it... it takes quite a while to remember all the names and faces of them.
Coming up to the next level SoShi are going to meet new audience...
And some of them were probably thinking if there were 100 of them.
But that's only for the dummies.
For those, who gets it, watching new images of their fave members is like an eyegasm.
In Korean groups, not mentioning Japanese, in which there are more than 5-6 members...
it happens, when producers (or who's the one there who decides it), pull out the most beautiful ones, ignoring the others...
Hands up, k-pop can't stay quiet in this situation...
So, we've made a PSA to support disadvantaged idols.
Every year hundreds of idols stand in a background in their groups.
They stay silent.
They hold it inside.
They cry.
They laugh but their eyes are sad.
You think, that you're alone... but you're not.
We're here to help you.
We'll give you a crown, if you don't het it in your group.
With our help you'll be able to sing the whole song, not a single line.
We'll give you more individual close-ups in MVs.
People'll notice you.
You're strong. You'll make it.
Pay your attention to other members of big groups.
Don't wait till it turns into a disaster.
Our time's almost up, so, we have to wrap up.
And it's time for this week's question.
Leave us a comment on Who's your most and least favourite SNSD' member here, on youtube.
Of course, if you have the least fave one... Then, explain why.
Our fave members are Sunny and Hyoyeon.
Don't forget to thumbs up this video.
