[music, female narrator] Welcome to This Week @Minnesota.
[male narrator] The Bell Museum held Science Discovery Camp
this week.
One class focused on bee keeping and honey making
and allowed local elementary children the opportunity to try
on beekeeping suits, harvest honey, and even take some
of the sweet treat home.
There's still one more week of camp remaining
and you can learn more at bellmuseum.org.
On Wednesday, U astrophysicist, Claudia Scarlata,
announced the results of observations
on a giant space blob, or Lyman-alpha, which showed
for the first time that showed for the first time
that its likely powered by galaxies embedded within it.
[Claudia Scarlata] This blob is a giant nebula.
You can say its about one hundred times the size
of our own galaxy.
And its a giant nebula of gas.
This new technique that we applied
to this particular blob allows us to map gas
which would be otherwise invisible to other techniques.
[male narrator] Minnesota has been on high alert
for emerald ash borers since 2009.
U entomologist Jeff Hahn says you can fight the green bug.
[Jeff Hahn] Well, an emerald ash borer crisis is an exotic insect
that that we're all very concerned
about that attacks our ash trees and one of the things
that really stands out about it is its iridescent green color.
And if they think they see something thats an emerald ash
borer they should report that to the Minnesota Department
of Agriculture and then they will sort
through to see whether it is or is not.
[music, female narrator] That's This Week @Minnesota.
