HAPPY ANS SAD WINES
The earth's sap mingled with the primordial fire creates a spherical room,
in a shape of pearls,
translucent, crossed in either direction by sunlight.
We imagine that we see the world from the inside of such a drop of light and clay.
And, thanks to a DNA configured like a grapevine
and found on the edge of myth and reality,
all appears to us eihter solar-green, or blood-pink,
depending on the very complicated game of the Universe humours.
We speak, therefore, about the mysterious psychology of the wine in the embryonic stage -
"liquid existence, which born, lives and dies"
- storage of predominant, calm telluric latencies,
or of nervousness and Apollonian glimpses,
everlasting and fresh teenage joy,
or by a close funeral academic sobriety
provided by a long time underground storage stages.
Wines, like humans, have their own temperament and truth.
In Moldova, we can find vineyards like Bucium, Galata, Copou-Sorogari;
also, vineyards from Husi with their Zghihara or Bohotin Busuioaca.
Moreover, the wines from Vaslui, Vrancea, Tecuci-Galati, or Cotnari.
All these areas can provide as many invitations addressed to the tourists to try thematic tours:
"Iasi wines" or "Moldova wines" are just simple examples.
The most important vineyard (in our area) is Cotnari, place of honor since ancient times,
from the Stefan Cel Mare days (voivode of Moldova between 1457 and 1504).
The Cotnari vineyard lines quite a few international awarded varieties of wine: Frâncusa Cotnari, Grasa Cotnari and Tãmâioasã.
There are also blends of wines: Cotnari, Cotnari Blanc or Chateau Cotnari.
If you have to mention a special wine from this area, Iasi - Cotnari, which one will be?
I'd say that should be a black Feteascã from Uricani (village located three kilometers from Iasi).
But unfortunately, this variety disappeared...
Why it is gone?
It disappeared because of carelessness...
For me the Cotnari vineyard remains as standard reference,
the only one worldwide renowned and awarded.
So, from this reason, if I have to choose a wine for me,
I'll choose Chateau Cotnari - a wine blended from three varieties:
Tãmâioasã, Frâncusã and Feteascã - the wine that I like most.
What wine you'd choose?
Frâncusã Cotnari 2008
The wine,
"liquid existence, which born, lives and dies".
In Romania, in the last few decades, over 30 varieties of wine have disappeared.
The narrow personal interest, the negligence,
the indifference towards others and history,
destroy with the acids tenacity
what is still alive in a country where even the past is for sale.
