Every year TAFE Western's Outstanding Graduating Student Awards celebrate the achievements
of students and the role TAFE Western plays in changing lives.
The 2011 awards were held at the Orange Function Centre in May and the achievements of three
state medallists, nine category winners and three overall winners were honoured.
The next step in our formal proceedings really is to get to the main business of the day
which is to honour our outstanding graduating students for 2011.
Each of the students have a story to tell about the role TAFE has played in helping
them start their careers, to change direction or get the skills they needed for their current
career.
The winners came from all ages and backgrounds and there were 3 overall winners.
Kodie Keed from Parkes was named the Aboriginal student of the year.
Scott Mitchell from Condobolin was named runner up for the most outstanding student of the
year
Grace Grant a welfare student from Dubbo was named most outstanding graduating student.
The most important thing I have learnt through TAFE would have to be just don’t doubt yourself,
get in there and give it a go and ask for help if you need it.
I have spent the last 4 years trying to look for a job and I got told that I didn’t have
enough qualifications. I didn’t really want to sit at home and do nothing so I had to
get out and meditate, which I am glad I did.
If you want to do something just go for it, you know you can sit there and rattle off
all the excuses and blame everyone else but at the end of the day if you have the fire
in your belly you can do it, go and do it.
Do it for yourself don’t count on other people. I mean other people can be there to
help you but at the day its your life. Make it happen for yourself.
