A social worker has a responsibility to the human race, it does not matter if he or she
works in a micro, mezzo, or macro setting. Human dignity must be pushed forward and sought
after for each person. In order to do that the social worker has no other option but
to honor each person's individuality, and to stand against the exploitation of vulnerable
people and populations. Equity and social justice in areas such as but not only education
and health, are a priority for the social worker. In order for these goals to be reached
the social worker needs to be involved in interdisciplinary and collaborative partnerships
for his or her client. These partnerships not only need to include the social worker
and other helping professionals but also, and more importantly the client. The client
has to have the opportunity to exercise their right to self-determination in the helping
relationship. They need to be able to make decisions about their interventions and treatment
plans especially when they are expected to make decisions in their lives. Humans are
a resilient people they continue to grow and change, it is the social workers responsibility
not to change their client but to be an agent of change for their client. It is the social
workers responsibility to empower the disenfranchised and oppressed people no matter their age,
race, gender, *** orientation, religion or economic status. It is because the social
worker stands up for the human as an individual and as the entire race that I have to be a
social worker. It is because the profession of social work stands for what I believe in.
It is because my own life has been greatly affected because a social worker decided to
stand for me when I was unable to stand for myself. I have to be a social worker because
I am human and my life is no more or less important than the life of my neighbors.
