Hi this is Travis with POSGuys.com and we're doing another Ask POSGuys. One of the questions
we get often is how do I use a USB scanner with an iPad. There are no USB ports on an
iPad but what you can get is a camera connectivity kit.
So if you search for that on the Apple website you'll have a little dongle looking thing.
Um, here is another example of it, this one has three USB ports and some card reader ports.
On the other end is your older style Apple port. When you plug it in
this one requires power, you then have three USB ports where you can plug in your barcode
scanner.
On the screen it is going to say "Cannot use this device, Symbol barcode scanner not found."
or it'll say Datalogic barcode scanner, whatever the manufacturer is. You just click okay
but when you go to use the device
then it scans without a problem.
[multiple beeps]
So that is how you get a USB barcode scanner to work with an iPad. Apple doesn't officially
support this so you have to use it at your own risk. If there is a certain barcode scanner
you would like us to test, give us a call at 855-POS-GUYS and we'll give the scanner
a test out for you.
