Kris Simpson: Hey, Kris here from Bodies By Design personal training. I find in life we
tend to label people, including myself sometimes. Just an easier thing to do. Rather than doing
the work to get to know somebody, we just slap a label on them. And I think that the
first label is the first impression, and that is going to be how we physically look to others.
Either you're skinny, average or overweight. And the overweight label tends to have some
sticky stigmas to it, like: you are lazy, you are careless and you are undisciplined.
That brings us to our next client star profile story, the brothers, Amit and Ankur. You see,
one brother wants to find a wife and one brother wants to find a career, but they've got this
big overweight label stopping them from achieving their aspirations.
Ankur: Our life before Bodies By Design was that we were really lazy. We used to eat out
all the time. We just didn't have any energy levels. We were just always eating or sleeping.
And I think when we came here, things have changed a lot, here at Bodies By Design.
Amit: Yeah, before, every Fridays we used to have our tradition. Go out every Friday,
try a new restaurant, anything. Ankur: Where I was working, I was working
until 12am. I would come home, on the way home I would have McDonald's, pizza. I would
always eat at 1am. Amit: And always told him to bring me back
some stuff too, because I would get jealous of what you eat. Food was really important
to us, because it just tasted good. Ankur: Yeah, and we were always tempted. The
commercials that you see, we always wanted the Big Mac. We always wanted the fries.
Amit: Every time I used to go to a job interview, I'd feel like I would be classified right
away. And I think that is where I really felt it. I'd come in, I'd be sweating and automatically
I'd feel judged, like, "Oh, this guy, he's just lazy. We should not hire him." Compared
to me, all the other people, all the other candidates that were sitting there, everyone
else was skinny; except for me. So I felt very judged by that.
Ankur: And for me, I lost my confidence. I would hide myself as much as I could, with
my baggy jackets or baggy sweatshirts. I lost my confidence in terms of speaking with people.
And I couldn't even just go on a [inaudible 02:27] I just felt like "You know what, she's
going to fake me anyways." I'm not the image that they're looking for.
When we first met Matt, we didn't know what to expect. We were just introduced to Matt
as a trainer, from Kris and we just went in. Maybe one or two exercises in, we were wondering
what we were getting into. Especially when you passed out...
Amit: Oh yeah. I was kind of like, "Who is this guy, making me die on the floor?" But
we realized that he is actually pretty knowledgeable. Matt Chalons: I know you guys asked me often,
"When we're going to starts seeing results? When are we going to start seeing things?"
I tried to not give you guys, "Oh yeah, tomorrow you will" or, "A year later". I tried to let
you guys know that it's progress. Ankur: Both of our results were that we both
got 101 pounds total loss. me especially when Matt was like, "You need to switch your routine.
You need to switch your diet around a little bit too." That's when it just started to drop.
By the end of the first session we were like, "You know what? Even though we're all sore
and everything, this guy, he knows exactly what to do. And he is definitely going to
help us out."
