Selection committee / TV and Commissioned films Distributor / Ireland
Would you like to present yourself?
I'm Julie Fox
I have an international cartoon distribution company.
I represent French producers,
international producers
and I sell cartoons around the world.
Often they are young producers,
new on the scene, I like making little discoveries.
What are the trends amongst producers and in the international market?
From what I've seen lately,
compared with when I set up my company five years ago,
it's that I used to be one of the only producers
in the market looking for ludo-educative products.
I realise that
there is more and more demand for products with an educational basis,
but which are funny
and which bring something politically correct to children too.
As for themes,
we are starting to see more and more environmental projects.
These are the central themes for me.
What trends are you seeing in the films presented for Annecy 2009?
We have seen lots of environmental projects;
some which are very funny,
others which are more educational.
We have seen some nice pre-school projects
and quite a lot of very small short films too.
What advice do you have for young creatives and producers?
After having seen the files we saw at the beginning of the week,
I would say that one very important thing for a young producer
is to be able to summarise their concept in one line when they give their pitch,
and to not make too many references to programmes
which are very well known around the world.
It's important that your project is seen as an original project,
with its own vision.
