In grade school, I started out running cross-country. That was my first competitive sport that I
ever did. Then I moved into soccer, track and field, and then when I got into high school,
I continued with soccer. Then after that, life came, I got a little busy. I started
working at the age of 16, so I had to quit playing sports, so it was very ... I've always
been a competitive guy. I've always been a very athletic guy, so I knew I had to do something
and I wanted something with weight training, so I started off working out in my basement.
I had a stack of York barbells, the vinyl ones this big; ten pounds was this big. I'd
work out in my basement for about 30 minutes every other day, usually just chest and biceps.
Then I started educating myself a little more and started doing back exercises, tricep exercises,
legs. After high school, I joined the gym. First time joining the gym, I was about 18
years old, and then I realized that, "Hey, I really like this." I was going to college
for something totally different.
I actually went to school for Machine Shop. Did it, graduated, never applied for a job
as a machinist. I decided to get into the Can-fit-pro. I knew that working out, I really
enjoyed this and I really wanted to help people work out. I pursued personal training when
I was 20 years old. I'm from a small town outside Windsor, called Amherstburg. I'm sure
not so many people are familiar for where that is. I was there. I personal trained for
about two years. Then I decided that it wasn't good enough for me. I needed more. I needed
more experience. I needed more volume of clients, so I decided to move to the greater Toronto
area and accelerate my personal training career. When I came here, Bodies By Design, I noticed
there was a lot of energy. It looked pretty competitive. I actually thought, like, "Oh,
man." I went from the top trainer over there. Now I'm back at the bottom with no one in
my schedule, so then I had to prove to everybody else and myself that I can build the schedule
back up.
I remember the first day, I was shadowing everybody. They got me involved right away.
There was techno music blaring in the third room there. I can't remember that song, though.
I can hear it in my head. I knew it would be a good place to work, and I accepted the
job right away. The program here at Bodies By Design works for three reasons. These three
reasons are we need people to show up. You need to show up for your classes, your appointments
here. We need you to food log. We need to know what you ate the day before, the whole
week, the whole month. It goes hand-in-hand with your weight loss journey here. We also
need you to weigh in. We need to know where we're starting from. How do we know that we're
getting better if we don't have a base to start out with? Our successful clients are
logging their food. They're coming in three-plus times a week. They're weighing in. They're
letting us see how much they actually weigh, and it continues as part of their journey
in life. It's part of their new routine, their new lifestyle. My advice for people to make
fitness as a lifestyle, they need to do it every day. They need to work out every day.
They need to think fitness every day. They need to eat clean and healthy every day.
