Do you want to print metallic envelopes in your home printer? Although most consumer
grade printers are designed to print envelopes, they don’t all print with the same quality.
To complicate matters more, the unique surface of the metallic envelopes like we offer at
LCI Paper make printing more challenging than printing on matte finish envelopes. Should
you laser print or should you ink jet print? In our in-house printing tests we find that
laser printing gives the best, the sharpest, and the most well saturated text on metallic
finish envelopes. Drying time is almost immediate when using the toner-based technology of laser
printers. Conversely, ink jet printers spray wet ink onto the surface, and in fact, up
to 24 hours of drying time may be necessary before the ink dries fully onto the metallic
finish envelopes. To prevent smudging it is important to refrain from handling the paper
until the ink has completely dried. By ordering samples you’ll find answers to a few common
questions. For example, does the printed result meet your expectations? Does the text come
out sharp and crisp? After the envelope runs through your printer, is it unscathed? And
if inkjet printing, how long does it take for the ink to dry? If you're happy with the
print quality and the state of the envelope after testing, then your printer is an excellent
candidate for printing metallic finish envelopes. Since the metallic finish paper used to make
our metallic envelopes is a thicker paper than used in our common matte finish envelopes,
it’s important to set the paper type to Envelopes in the print driver. The Envelope
setting will make it easier for the envelope to travel through the printer. Now if you
have an older printer, the Envelopes setting may be a physical lever. We hope these tips
help to make printing metallic envelopes easier. And if you have any tips you’d like to pass
along, or if you have any further questions about printing envelopes at home in your printer,
