Well I am, not only a disability advocate but
I am a survivor of domestic violence and
I am going to start a foundation called New Beginnings.
And I've got my
federal ID number but I need to keep working on getting a grant
to fund this. And my dream is to have this be an organization that
is something that is a national thing so that's what I've been working on
for the last couple years.
And just getting this together and so I'm just now
to the point where I've got my federal ID number.
And I'm going to be looking at sources of money for Indiana.
What really needs to be done is more education for young, young boys.
It's not, that's why
New Beginnings, the foundation I'm starting,
it's about helping
not only women but men. I mean they are victims, too
but in helping them get maybe it's their GED
or helping do scholarships for them to go
[inaudible] their education. But really
it's not about there's so much out there for like
everyone you know, knows you know it's wrong or whatever
but there needs to be more training for young boys
to keep them out of getting in the cycle
that they see their fathers or their brothers.
I've um...I've been working on starting this foundation for
probably couple years. And when I was fully sick I was
always in my bed I couldn't be in my chair so I would just be
using the ceiling as like,
like a chalk board. And I'd just be writing things
if I was able to be up in my chair writing or whatever.
So I mean I've been planning this for a couple years.
And so now it's to the point where, cuz I had gone through these classes
through the small business administration and so
I kind of knew what I wanted to do so I'd just be writing on my ceiling.
So yes, it's just, I've learned
to have a backup plan for a backup plan for a backup plan.
Eight years ago I had
worked downtown. I worked for the Health Department
and then I, unfortunately I had to leave there
cuz I got a terrible decubitus ulcer from getting bad healthcare
from a home health nurse. So anyway I had to leave work
and I was fairly, I was off for like
almost two years because of that. So after that
I didn't work and so um...
then unfortunately I was in a terrible terrible marriage
and I got thrown in a bathtub and so with all this happening.
And then I got real sick again with this
whatever that's called a [inaudible] that was a deathly kind of thing. And so
now I am totally totally healthy again and I'm so ready to work.
And I'm so excited because I've met so many wonderful people that I think,
I think I'm on the right way.
