Has this ever happened to you?
You’re home for the holidays and you get a notice from the library letting you know your books are due.
This is where My Library Account can save the day.
You can use this service to renew the loan period on books that you’ve checked out.
You can also use it to place hold requests on any book from the library.
You can log into your library account by
selecting “My Library Account” from the library home page
at brocku.ca/library.
Once you’ve signed in with your campus ID and password
(it’s the same as your my.brocku username and password)
you should see the number of books you have checked out in “books currently checked out.”
You can click on “item currently checked out” to
see a list of books you’re currently borrowing from the library.
From here you can renew your books to extend the due date.
Just so you know, you won’t be able to renew your books
But, if the due date for a book has already passed and you do not have fees exceeding $10,
you should be able to renew your loans
Under status, you should see the due date,
which starts with the year, followed by the month and day.
If you’re not ready to give up the book just yet and the due date is coming up,
you can renew the book by checking the box beside it and clicking on
“Renew Selected.”
First, you should see a message asking you to confirm your renewal request.
Click YES to continue with the renewal.
After you’ve confirmed your request to renew the book,
you should see a message under “status” that indicates
how many times you’ve renewed the item and the new due date.
So, how else can My Library Account save the day?
Let’s say you find a book that you desperately need for a research paper,
but it’s currently out on loan
or you’re not on campus to pick it up from the library yourself.
You can use the “Request” feature in My Library Account
to place a hold request on a book the library has,
whether it’s in the library or already checked out.
After you find the book you want in Super Search,
click the title of the book.
You’ll be directed to a page that describes the book in more detail.
Scroll to the bottom of this page to find the “Request This” button.
Sign in with your campus username and ID again and click submit.
You'll see the book here.
Mark it and click “request selected item."
If you’ve requested a book that’s out on loan, the current borrower has seven days to return it to the library.
You’ll receive an e-mail in your brock e-mail account when the item is ready for pick-up.
If you’ve requested a book that’s currently in the library,
you’ll also be able to pick it up from the circulation desk
after you have received e-mail notification.
It usually takes only a day or two.
