Hello and welcome to Nooria's Kitchen.
Today I will show you how to make a famous Afghan dessert called 'Ferni'.
To make Ferni, we need the following Ingredients:
Milk - 1L
Cornstarch - 3 Tbsp
Sugar - 1 Cup
Rosewater - 1 Tsp
Cardamom Powder - As needed
For garnishing, I have pistachio in powder form.
I also have another 1/2 cup of milk that I will use to mix with the cornstarch.
I am going the heat the milk in a large pot. Heat it in medium temperature to avoid burning the nutrients .
Add the sugar and let it mix with the milk
I am going to take this opportunity to mix the cornstarch with the extra 1/2 cup of milk.
If you use less cornstarch the pudding will take longer to make but it will taste much better.
Using too much cornstarch gives it a rubbery texture an gets rid of the smoothness.
Remember to avoid mixing cornstarch with hot liquids so it easily dissolves with other ingredients.
You can also substitute water for milk for this step of the recipe.
It looks like the milk is warm and ready. its time to combine the cornstarch+milk paste with the boiling Milk.
Slowly stir and mix the ingredients together to create a thick texture
As you can see the milk is getting thicker
Add the rosewater and the cardamom powder
1 Tsp Rosewater
1/2 Tsp Cardamom Powder
Give it another stir and mix the ingredients
The ferni looks ready so I turn the heat off.
I will pour it into a serving dish and let it cool.
The ferni is now cooked and I have poured it into a serving dish.
I am using cherries to decorate the middle but you can use any fruit you wish to use.
I am also going to use Pistachio powder to add a design and improve the appearance of the pudding
