Welcome everyone to another Movie Line Monday.
Today's topic is from the movie Jobs.
How does someone know what they want
if they haven't ever seen it?
Now, as amusing as this quote may be,
this truly comes to bear in the kind of work
that we're doing with our customers.
Today, the present solutions for cloud security
are, again, a lot about block this, block that.
And what we found with our customers is allow
is the new block.
Without being glib about the line itself,
it is more about enabling the safe use of the cloud resourced
application that we find time and time again
to be the overriding factor that a lot of customers
are looking for.
And it's not just allowing access
to an enterprise ready application,
but it's also the activities that somebody
is performing within these applications.
So if I am uploading a file with my peer, say a peer
that we're working with, that is completely acceptable.
But if there is sensitive information that
is being shared, then that might be something of interest
that you want to tell the end user.
So for example, having the ability
to track a user going to a particular application
and sharing documents outside of the company,
that may or may not be of interest.
But at the same time, if the user
is uploading a file that happens to contain PII information that
is being sensitive, you might want
to make that end user aware.
Now, you have multiple actions in your policy tool kit.
One of those could be that you simply
want to inform the end user, is this something
you really want to do?
You want to make the users as part of the solution.
We hire the smartest guys in the company
and then the expectation from IT is,
I'm going to make a decision and not have the end users actually
find the reason behind it.
So the whole idea with Netskope is
to allow the end users to get a coaching page,
to get data a remediation if possible of the action
that they're performing.
So if they're uploading a file to PII,
you might want to inform, you might
want to block that activity if you so choose to,
and inform the end user why this is being blocked.
If they're sharing outside the company,
you might want to just inform that-- just
be sensitive to the fact that sharing outside the company
could hamper or leak some of the information
that you may not want to be leaked.
So again, the idea here is to make users
as part of the solution.
And by bringing them together in a way
that we are educating them about the decision,
is really how you enable the safe use of cloud.
So let us know if you have any other topics of interest
at movielinemonday@netskope.com and we would welcome
any comments that you have for such topics going forward.
Thank you.
