We are all Khaled Saeed
On anniversary of Khaled Saeed's death, prison torture continues
Negad al-Borai, Head of the United Group of Attorney's
Khaled Saeed was the straw that broke the camel's back
Thousands of people died under torture in this country
They didn't become famous like Khaled Saeed,
..nor did they have pages dedicated to them..
..like the "We are all Khaled Saeed" Facebook page..
..but nonetheless, they will never be forgotten
I would like to tell all of those..
..who died under torture and to tell their families..
..that they did not die in vain..
..and that the drops of blood accumulated..
..along with Khaled Saeed's blood..
..until it formed a flood of blood..
..that ousted President Mubarak's regime
Nasser Amin, Head of the Arab Center..
..for the Independence of the Judiciary and the Legal Profession
Concerning the revolution's effect on torture in Egypt,
..it was a very strong indication..
..that there was a rejection of anything..
..that compromises human dignity
That in itself does not lead to change,
..or to the change of the torture scene in Egypt..
..or to the end of torture in Egypt
Magda Adly director of Nadim Center..
..for Rehabilitation and treatment of victims of violence
All of the citizens that were referred to military courts..
..were tortured by the military police..
..and the other forces that accompanied them..
..such as Task Force 777 and the Egyptian commandos
We can describe this torture as systematic
It begins with the victim being severely beaten..
..he lies on the floor,
..they stand on his body with their boots,
..they use electric batons
On 9 March, the women were exposed to virginity tests..
..which we consider as indecent assault
The forensic examination report is defective,
The defendant's referral to forensic examination is delayed
His relatives and the people with him are pressured..
..to keep them from testifying in his favor
The police station is turned into a dark room..
..and no one knows what is taking place inside..
..and this keeps the person isolated from the world
It is a non-ending cycle of mass violence..
..that can escalate to ***,
..torture and insult of the detainees,
..threatening women with ***,
..and *** harassment of women..
..which was evident during the Cabinet Street..
..and Interior Ministry protests
The 12 to 16 thousand people..
..who were arrested and tried by military courts,
..whether those still detained or those released,
..were exposed to torture
Via internet
Therefore, there must be an independent..
..public prosecutor to deal with these cases..
..without any political considerations ..
..dictated by the executive authorities
The public prosecutor's office..
..must be affiliated to the Supreme Judicial Council..
..rather than the Minister of Justice
The forensic medicine department must be independent..
..and forensic medical examiners must be scientifically..
..and professionally rehabilitated
The Interior Ministry must be broken down and rebuilt
Any citizen accused of torture..
..cannot be allowed to remain in his job
The less police stations are converted to military-like camps..
..and the more they are opened to the people..
..the less the likelihood that these practices will take place
Thus, torture will continue to be practiced..
..following the revolution..
..until we can change society's perception..
..that defendants are convicts..
.. and make them realize..
..that they are defendants until proven guilty..
..and that even after being sentenced..
..they must not be insulted or harmed
