Ok. Hello guys and gals. We are out for a little
bushcraft practice today. Oh! Hello. Can you even see me? A Little dark.
We’re out here today to answer a viewer question. It was posed a long time ago. And
I have to say, one of the best things about moderating a channel on YouTube especially
in the wilderness genre, like this one, is the comments people post. I get a lot of information
and in this case a lot of inspiration from the comments that you guys leave. And I want
you to know that I really appreciate it and by all means continue.
Now in the first bushcraft practice video I put up I made a lean-to shelter. And it
was kind of cool because it was basically two tripods with extra-long legs and a ridge
pole. And of course that inspired Bushcraftbartons to ask would it support a hammock?
So we went back out to the shelter. We had to put on a much longer ridge pole. A much
more substantial ridge pole. But sure enough it worked. And now we’ve got a handy way
to hang a hammock in the wilderness if we can’t find two trees the perfect distance
apart without having to clear all the wilderness in between in order to make it work. So that’s
kind of handy for us. We certainly won’t be practicing making
any fires today. It is far far too dry up here. And that’s unusual for this time of
year. And then it was Jim from WoodenArrows that
left us a comment about another video that was showing a camp cot attempt. That was Lilly.
And of course that was what led us to our successfully pulling off the Amazing Camp
Cot. And of course it is easy for us because ah we have access to lots and lots of dead
wood in order to do these bushcraft projects. This is kind of pretty.
We’re almost at the top and it’s going to get a little bit windier up there. A little
difficult to talk. We’ll see what happens. Ah. That looks like a good spot right there.
Great little spot to, ah, catch my breath, dry off a little, and hydrate. Then maybe
I will be able to talk to you. Woo. Now the inspiration for today’s video comes
from a user names Raimundough. Raimundough. R A I M U N D O U G H.
Now I know why Ray just simply goes from a user named … BAM!
He posed a question way back under our Amazing Wilderness Camp Chair video. And he left a
comment in the form of a question where he said “Now can you make a wilderness sofa?”
I thought well that’s a bit of a challenge. And we had to go through all those other steps
first before we finally could get here. Now my first attempt at this challenge was
basically a lazy attempt. I took the raised bed shelter. Took one of the rails and fed
it through two chairs and hung it off the ridge pole. That’s a fair trade coffee sac.
And it’s a good substitute for an Amazing Wilderness Camp Chair if you want to try this
idea out. I basically made what looks like a love seat. And probably could support two
children, one adult but that’s it. So that was failed attempt number one. And the problem
of course is the ridge pole. It wasn’t stiff enough. So I figure if I just replace the
ridge pole with a sturdier one we should have it.
So what is this fresh madness you say? That we have found in the wilderness. I believe
I‘ve just invented the wilderness couch, or perhaps the wilderness sofa, or maybe even
the wilderness chesterfield. And … there is absolutely no way that’s going to support
three adults. So that was failed attempt number two. But if you follow me to my wilderness
campsite, I will show you attempt number three. Raimundough. Raimundough. I guess it depends
on where you put the enfaces on that name. As mountains go this one’s pretty small
even by Canadian Shield standards. But the view is pretty good from up here. And as I
cross over the top of this one I’ll show you. It’s the highest point in the area
and you can see for miles and miles. It’s quite beautiful really. It’s one of the
reasons I love to come up here. Look at that. Gorgeous isn’t it?
Ok. Now this is a regular Amazing Wilderness Camp Chair. You’ve seen it before. Very
comfortable. Ok and this is another Amazing Wilderness
Camp Chair. This is the Ultra-lite model. Now each one of these will hold more than
200 lbs. Ok. There it is so far. Kind of the love seat set up. Now tell me from up here.
Does that not look like a wilderness couch? Chesterfield? Sofa maybe?
Ok to finish it off we added a ridge pole between the two chair frames. So that we could
hang a third ultra-lite chair from the ridge pole. And here you have it folks. I believe
it’s a YouTube first. The wilderness sofa, or chesterfield, or couch.
Nice view. This is pretty sweet. All sit around the camp fire. Can’t have one today, it’s
too dry. But the next time. Sweet! Thanks for watching and thank you for your comments.
We really appreciate them. Ok. So far so good.
