In medical news, American scientists develop a new technique to assist in diagnosing melanoma.
Researchers at Duke University in North Carolina, USA report that they may be able to spot the
skin cancer earlier by using tiny laser technology. The special tool can analyze different types
of melanin in a potentially malignant mole. Higher concentrations of eumelanin can indicate
cancer. Using the laser, the team was 100% accurate in identifying melanoma on 42 skin
specimens. Dr. Warren S. Warren, Director of Duke’s Center for Molecular and Biomolecular
Imaging, said the innovative method could prevent hundreds of thousands of false diagnoses.
The study was published in the journal “Science Translational Medicine.”
What a promising advancement, Dr. Warren S. Warren and participating scientists at Duke
University! May it help ensure optimum health for many precious individuals.
