Hi, everybody! David Dilling from Markzware.
Today's quick tip, or actually, let's call it an FAQ,
Frequently Asked Question
is from Greg and he posted on our blog following
"Will Q2ID work for me if I'm trying to convert
Quark Macintosh files
into
InDesign Windows files?"
In short, the answer is yes.
Let's check it out.
Okay, here I am in
Adobe InDesign's CS5 on a Macintosh. Here we have the Quark
Windows file.
Interesting note here: It doesn't even have an extension that shows up as a
unknown file here on the Mac?
But watch what Q2ID can do.
We just go up here and choose Q2ID.
Convert QuarkXPress Document.
We go into the folder
where the file is,
the folder we were just in.
We see the same exact file.
So, this is a
Windows file
QuarkXPress that will convert to
Adobe InDesign on a Mac,
slightly different from what the customer asked for,
but the same applies
vice versa.
You can take Macintosh Quark files and convert them to
Windows InDesign files. The conversion in Q2ID
is cross-platform; it goes either way. So, we'll just show you this example now of his Windows file,
and we'll open it
from Quark
right into InDesign on a Mac.
So, it's also going Windows to Mac, in this case.
The conversion process starts
and goes relatively quickly.
Q2ID or Quark to InDesign from Markzware in version 5.5
will convert all
elements of this file, styles,
fonts,
colors,
images, positioning,
placement of objects, etc. The only thing to be aware of cross-platform is Windows
fonts will not work on a Macintosh and vice versa,
unless of course they're
OpenType.
We get the Missing Font warning,
and there you go.
It's that easy with Marksware's Q2ID. So, that's the quick tip with
literally a click, you can get your
QuarkXPress archives,
your legacy QuarkXPress files, right into Adobe InDesign.
Q2ID will run cross-platform conversion from Mac Quark to
Windows InDesign, in this case, from Windows Quark into
Macintosh InDesign CS5.
For more information on Markzware Q2ID
version 5.5, just go over to markzware.com
and under the Products section, or in the main banner here, you can click to get
more information and watch a demonstration video on
how Q2ID works. As you saw, it's quite simple. It's available for Mac or
Windows.
Also check out PageZephyr, a way to free up on the Macintosh, at least search,
extract, and allow you to republish Quark and InDesign content and even Publisher
content.
Very interesting product to help you convert
textual content up to the internet or into other formats.
Also, under Q2ID, we have an articles section
and, of course, the demo we just discussed.
Q2ID Quark to InDesign,
cross-platform,
an easy way to get your Quark
documents, your archives for Quark files from customers that are still using it,
many publishers still do,
to get the Quark files right into InDesign, whether from Mac or Windows.
It's a great way to
recycle your content. Thank you. David Dilling from Markzware. Have a great day!
