SIR VILLORIA: To deliver the address of thanks on behalf of the graduates,
is no other than, our first honors, Jaan Patrick C. Barreras.
(APPLAUSE)
PATRICK: To our school director, (Dr.) Reno R. Rayel;
To our beloved principal Dr. Erlinda Arguelles;
To you our school administrators;
Our commencement speaker representative, Ms. Katrina J. Sanchez;
to my dearest teachers, to my batchmates, to my HF family, to all parents especially to my family,
Isang magandang magandang gabi sa inyong lahat.
Naimbag nga rabii kadatayu amin. (Good evening to us all)
pati palikuran (at least sa first floor) at malaking canteen.
Kumbaga, mula sa isang talipapa ay papasok ako sa isang supermarket.
Ito yung mga bagay na nagpasidhi sa akin upang lumipat na din dito sa "University of Perpetual Help" Molino campus.
I entered this university as a grade 2 pupil. As years passed by,
I came to realize that the University has more to offer.
It is more than just a big campus. The structures and the facilities are just secondary.
This is what I mean.
The university encourages students to study hard by giving incentives - 100% free tuition to honor students
a privilege that I enjoyed for 5 years.
This university had done even more to me. It is here where I first experienced inter-school competitions:
the Panlalawigan Mind Challenge, SFAC Pagalingan, U.P. Diliman / Los BaƱos Quiz Bee and the History Mind Challenge, to mention some.
I also experienced inter-school trainings like the YMCA in Baguio and the very competitive MTG or the Mathematics Trainers Guild, Philippines.
I have participated in MTG since I was in grade 3, wherein I've gone to Bataan, Naga, Iloilo
and I will be attending the incoming April 1-4 Intensive Training Session in Tagaytay.
Because of these experiences, I developed confidence, and the ability to accept defeat.
UPHSD has made me who I am now. I may not sound like the others,
but this University had given to me, more than what I had seen when I first entered this campus.
It feels sad that today's activity is our last. In several occassions, I remember myself standing in the same spot delivering my speech.
This will be the last.
In a couple of minutes, this hall will be left empty. Some will go to the restaurant,
while others might celebrate in the comfort of their homes. School year 2013-2014 will be the start of our new life,
New curriculum - the K to 12. Some of us will stay here,
enroll here and some will leave like me. This university is my comfort zone.
But what is the reason why I choose to leave this institution, who had done me so much goodness?
It is simply pushing myself beyond my limitations. And the only way to do that,
is to get out of my comfort zone.. to step forward.
This is personal development. One of my methods of development, is entering a school
with greater competition, entering the Philippine Science High School. The tools that I will be using in my next steps,
are the tools that I have acquired in this institution. I had so many good memories that this institution had given.
Memories that will always be part of my humble success, and my grade school life.
Everyone has the ability to succeed and accomplish, whatever he puts his mind to.
Always remember, the only losers in the game of life, are those who fail to play.
In trying, you would quickly realize that life is full of great difficulties.
At times, you may feel as though everything and everyone is against you, and nothing is going right, but you must never give up.
You have to motivate yourself and fight to be successful.
All of us, the graduates of 2013, have to realize that we are the future. We have to make the effort.
We have a responsibility to our family, to our friends, to our fellow citizens, to our country and most importantly, to ourselves.
In the world we live in, our actions define who we are. I want to urge you all,
let us, the graduates of 2013, be defined as the generation that will transform our country, even in our own little ways.
Remember that life is not a competition.
I hope the bonds we formed at UPHSD remain intact, and we treat each other
as friends for the rest of our lives, as we will step to another level of studies, that's the High School Life.
By this I mean; be happy for each other's success, share our knowledge with one another,
and lookout for each other. I urge you all, please do not belittle or think of anyone as being better than another.
One thing UPHSD has taught us, is the value of togetherness, and the importance of cohesiveness, despite differences.
Lastly, may I take this oppurtunity to acknowledge those who had contributed to my humble success.
First of all, God; if God had not blessed me I would not be here today.
Second, this institution, the University of Perpetual Help.
This institution did not only give me 5 years of free tuition but also armored me with confidence
Thank you, thank you very much.
To my beloved batchmates whom I shared the ups and downs of grade school life,
maraming maraming salamat;
to my teachers and trainors, especially to my greatest mentor, the ever beautiful Ma'am Melanie P. Bernal,
Thank you very much.
(APPLAUSE)
To my HF /happy family group including Mr and Mrs. Carcamo, Cortez, Dipasupil, Francisco and Mah, including Lola Bhe
Thank you very much;
to my best friends- Ezra, Angelo, Kurt, Ximon and Anthony, salamat mga p're!
and lastly to my ever supportive and loving family Kuya James, Mr. And Mrs. Eugene and Lea Barreras
para sa inyo itong mga parangal na ito, maraming maraming salamat at mahal ko po kayo.
And to all parents: Congratulations!
Keep on supporting us. Keep on supporting this institution.
