(Quinton - Student:) I had an interest in electrical power,
and being that this program is broad ...
it doesn't set you on .... any one career path --
there's different paths you can take with it.
I like the hands-on learning ...
down on the simulator ...
and throughout the labs ...
and the trips we've taken into the field.
We went to a transmission line control room
and hydro-electric power plant.
It exposes you to what you'd be doing and
what is done on a day-to-day basis in the field.
(Joe - Instructor:) The biggest sub-group of the
graduates from this program end up
working in electrical generating stations.
The power plants need to be operated
24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
There aren't a lot of younger people
working in that field,
so there's going to be a lot of retirees
in the next five years.
We try to keep current with the trends and
what's changing in the field to make sure these
students have the skills that are current.
(Quinton:) I like the two-year part of it.
You weren't locked in for four years,
but yet with a program like this,
you can go on for two more years
and get a bachelor's degree in engineering,
so you can make the decision by yourself.
