Winter is coming. And if those three words don't get you excited, let's put it more plainly.
Game of Thrones is almost back on the telly.
The fourth season of the hit fantasy show airs on HBO in the US on April 6, and sees
the conflict between the seven noble families of Westeros coming to a head.
On Tuesday at a swanky red carpet event in New York, over 30 actors from the show turned
out to celebrate the fourth series debut, and drop a few hints about what to expect
from the upcoming season.
I feel like, you know, we've had a lot of contenders for the throne before. And I feel
like this year your opinion on other characters are about to change a lot. And we're going
to see a lot from the women, which I'm so excited about and I think the audience should
be excited about that too.
While Maisie Williams who plays Arya Stark in the show was keen to share some tidbits
of information, Emilia Clarke who plays bossy dragon lady Daenerys said that even she isn't
sure what's in store for her character.
I've kind of been with Dany throughout the journey on this. I've never sort of seen a
finish line and I'm not sure she has either but just a desire to get there.
While Daenerys is currently spending her time meandering around a desert, other characters
like Charles Dance's Tywin Lannister and Peter Dinklage's Tyrion Lannister are slap ***
in the middle of political tussles and a full on war. Which according to Dinklage is something
that sets this show apart from your standard fantasy stuff.
Just complexity, different levels. And sometimes in this genre, I even don't like calling the
show a fantasy genre but some people do, they're a bit more one dimensional, heroes and villains
and stuff. And this sort of combines them into sort of grey areas as people are in life.
And Tyrion is one of those complex characters. He's a good guy that does bad things.
Cast newbie Pedro Pascal, who is playing Oberyn Martell aka The Red Viper, also thinks his
character's personality isn't so black and white.
I have vengeance in my heart but I come up against the people that everyone sort of fears
most, I would say. But it's definitely arguable, I certainly don't think I'm a villain. Not
in my eyes anyway.
But series creator George RR Martin takes a simpler view.
This is a fantasy for adults and it's really one of the first ones ever done on television,
where you can get that wonderful sense of wonder you get from the best fantasy and marvels
and you never know what can happen.
However you choose to describe it, Game of Thrones is one of the most popular shows on
TV right now, and we can't wait to find out what's happening in Westeros.
