Social media has over the last few years become very important in advocacy campaigns. It’s
sort of a selective audience’s megaphone. So whoever’s following you or listening
to you through a social media outlet wants to hear you. And they’re gonna be the most
dedicated people. So the key is to find them and then to get them to act based on whatever
your issue is and what you want them to do, whether it’s contact a member of Congress
or sign a petition, they’re the ones who are going to do it.
Persistence, social media allows you to really just go all the time. Unlike an e-mail which
you don’t want to send out too many because people will unsubscribe from your list, social
media you update consistently. And if you don’t update consistently, people won’t
see you. And the people who are checking, they really want to-- they want to know what
you’re saying. So I’d say sort of the volume that you can do with social media is
a trend. And people are realizing that.
