Gamma Zeta Alpha Fraternity is based on three principles that all brothers live by
academic excellence, which establishes us as an academic fraternity
community service which gives us the opportunity to give back to our community
and the Latino culture through brotherhood
Which again is a Latino interest doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s just Latinos in our organization
We have everything from Hindu, Latinos, whites, Asians, blacks, pretty much every culture you can think of
We’re the first fraternity to be established at CSUMB
laid the ground work for all the following Greek organizations
We also played a larger role in establishing the Multi-Cultural Greek Council, which is now the thriving force of Greek life at CSUMB
Gamma Zeta Alpha fraternity’s logo differs from other Greek organizations’ is that it was taken from our ancestors
It was taken from the Mayan shields
If you notice there are fifteen notches that represent the fifteen founding fathers at Chico State University
where Gamma Zeta Alpha was founded, December 3rd, 1987
On the top left hand you see the pyramid
which represents the reaching the top of the pyramid see the light at the top of the pyramid, the door, we’re trying to reach that top
We’re trying to be the best we possibly can, but not by ourselves, but with our fellow brothers. All of us together have to reach that top
On the right top side you see the book
A book is we’re an academic fraternity. The book also has the binding states RAZA
You know, again, Latino interests fraternity; that means people; that means human beings
Also every page that turns represents a different chapter that’s introduced to the organization
On the bottom left of the shield, you see the world, representing Latin America
Again, it’s a Latin based fraternity, and that is where we all live in the Americas
On the right bottom you see the uplifting of a brother, the holding hands, the shaking of hands, if you will, that represents the uplifting of a brother. We help each other in every aspect that we do
Whether it’s from academics, to social, to everything we might need as a brother we help each other out
You know, one brother starts to fall we raise him up. We stay together, we stick together. The brother hood, 51% brotherhood is what our fraternity’s based on
