DJ Trails with hiphopelements.com. We are going into doubles history and basically what
doubles is is using two copies of the same record to get a different effect or to extend
a beat or drum loop something like this. This was basically innovated in the 70s by DJs
such as Kool Herk), Grandmaster Flash, guys like DJ Jazzy J, Africa Bambada and so forth,
old school domination guys that where doing this party down the Bronx in New York and
basically like I said for the purpose of extending a break record. Key thing about doubles is
marking the record. You see I have the stickers on the record, which help keep track of the
sound. Basically the record is like a clock so basically we have; let’s say our sound
starts see the arrows pointing at 12 o’clock right now. So I know this sound is right here.
This is for cueing doubles. I know the sound is going to be here. I don’t even have to
listen to it. Now I can cut the volume and I know if I do one full rotation, I know my
sound is right there and I can start at the same time. So for doubles you are going to
play one side and you can use the clock to rotate it back and play the same beat over
and over and we are going to demonstrate it right now.
