NARRATOR: Dr. Sun what is diabetes?
DR. SUN: Diabetes is a condition in where the body is not able to handle blood glucose
or what is sometimes known as blood sugar very well. It can create a variety of metabolic
side effects. There are two types of diabetes. Type 1 diabetes, which is the rarer form which
is only found in five to ten percent with diabetes. Type 1 diabetes is a condition where
the body doesn't not produce any insulin, and its most often diagnosed in children or
young adults. The other type is type 2 diabetes which occurs more often in older adults, and
can be associated with being overweight, poor dietary habits and not getting enough exercise.
In type 2 diabetes the body is producing insulin, but it is not enough to keep the levels of
blood sugar or blood glucose under control.
