>> KAT: When it comes to teen wear it can be difficult to strike the right balance between fashionable and age appropriate.
So I’ve invited along fashion bloggers Kavita and Amy along to talk about what trends teens are looking for this season.
So we sent you off for the afternoon into the Matalan store. The big question is how did you find the range? Were you surprised?
>> AMY: We were quite surprised at how nice a lot of the things were because we don’t tend to shop in teen ranges.
>> KAVITA: It was really surprising, it was really fresh, it’s on trend and it’s definitely what I see teen’s wearing.
>> KAT: How would you describe your own style?
>> AMY: I would say kind of girly grunge so I tend to wear a nice dress or some more girly accessories but with more grungy shoes like my docs or my creepers.
>> KAT: So you like to mix it up a little bit?
As teenagers, is it important for you girls to dress age appropriately? Is it something you consider when your styling up or when you’re shopping?
>> KAVITA: You want to dress-up in something that is fun and fresh, but you don’t want to necessarily buy in the adult ranges.
>> AMY: I think people who feel comfortable in what their wearing just tend to look a lot better, more confident.
>> KAT: I’m really excited to see what you pull together.
Kavita would you like to go first and show us what you picked.
Wow! You look gorgeous!
>> KAVITA: Thank you!
>> KAT: So didn’t think you would choose a dress, I don’t know why, I’m very surprised but it looks beautiful.
>> KAVITA: I chose the dress really because I saw the crochet on it and it reminded me of vintage and I like to mix and match my vintage with high street.
>> KAT: It’s great actually, it’s quite short but the fact that it does have a high neck in fact means it isn’t too revealing. Which I always think is key when you’re dressing a teen.
I love the fact that you teamed it with black tights and ankle boots which dresses it down as well.
I think you’ve pulled loads of different trends together.
So you’ve got the Heritage vibe with the feather on the hat. You got a bit of lace, which is quite romantic dolce de vita and you’ve got tribal in the Aztec backpack.
It’s quite interesting that you don’t have to stick to one trend and you can pull all of those bits together.
Oh wow! You look so cute, I love that dress!
Were you a bit of a magpie?
>> AMY: Yeah, defiantly! I was really drawn to it in the shop just because of the fabric and the sparkles, it really grabbed me.
>> KAT: I love the fact that, just like Kavita actually, you dressed down a very evening dress into a day time look.
I think the buckles give it that man-ish vibe that you were talking about earlier.
The dress is very girly and putting with those ankle boots gives it that mix match look you were talking about.
>> AMY: I think the boots are really essential, I love the colour and the way the burgundy ties in with the buckle on the bag as well.
>> KAT: Burgundy is such a huge colour as well this season right!
