-Now it's time to talk about the data consolidation solution Riverbed Granite and here with me
is Joe Bombagi who is the solutions architect for Riverbed Granite.
-Hello to you.
-Hi.
-Now you had a number of successes since the launch of a Riverbed Granite can you talk
me through those?
-Sure, there have been a number of successes, the Riverbed Granite technology works across
all kinds of verticals, it’s not specific to any vertical, it's more about the problem
it solves; so the customers, whether it be legal, manufacturing, construction, finance,
retail… they’ve all found a really good fit for Granite because they all tend to have
the same kinds of issues that Granite resolves. One good example is Paul Hastings who is a
global legal firm: they had already embarked on a consolidation exercise and were stuck
between being able to consolidate all of their data but also being able to provide local
access to that data in the branches so they were kind of stuck in between that type of
situation. Granite effectively came in to allow them to consolidate all the data to
the data centre or number of data centres in that case at this stage while projecting
that data back out to the branches so they could still have local access to that data.
-So what are the typical pain points that a business would be experiencing that Riverbed
Granite would be perfect for?
-Usually it tends to come back to backup. No customers typically want back up in the
branches but when they're forced to have application servers in the branch it means they need storage
in the branch, data in the branch and then they’re forced to have backup solutions
in the branch usually that might be tape libraries and such or ‘back up over the WAN’ type
solutions. So it effectively allows these customers to continue to run these applications
from the branch which have effectively been projected by Granite to the branch and all
of the data associated with those applications is also projected from the data centre to
the branch by Granite.
-Can you share your product development plans with us?
-Sure, so now that we have quite a large customer base for Granite we've been able to get a
large amount of feedback from these customers as far as what they'd like to see now and
in the future and in the short term it's been largely around having larger capacity appliances
for example so we've recently released a much larger appliance from a storage capacity memory
CPU, we've also had a large amount of customers with Fibre Channel requirements which is something
we didn't support in the early days and that's also something that we've now released.
-Well Joe Bombagi from Riverbed, thank you very much.
-My pleasure.
