Hi! My name is Maria Huff. I'm a senior this year at Purdue University studying agriculture education.
I grew up on a hog farm raising 200 head of sows so I've always been part of
agriculture and I've always been involved in the rural community.
From FFA and 4-H and those organizations, I decided on agriculture education
just because I was always involved in helping youth and being passionate about agriculture
and those two things kind of combined.
Being in the College of Agriculture here at Purdue is so great into transitioning
into college from high school.
Just because you feel like you're part of a smaller family and people know you by your name.
You're not just a number anymore on campus.
There are so just many clubs you can get involved with in the College of Agriculture.
All of those clubs and organizations have many people that have the same similarities as you
so you can make friends so easily without even really realizing what you're doing.
In August 2012 I was fortunate enough to be named the Miss Indiana State Fair Queen 2013.
I owe complete credit to the College of Ag here at Purdue for my accomplishment there.
Without all of my time spent here in my clubs, in my organizations, and also with my internships
I obtained while being at Purdue there is absolutely no way I would have succeeded and would have won.
Being in the College of Agriculture opened so many doors for students here.
People don't really realize how many options and how many opportunities there are
within the agriculture industry for jobs right now.
It doesn't just all stop at the farm.
Farming and production agriculture is a huge part of the agriculture industry
but there are so many other jobs besides just farming.
I am so happy and so grateful I decided to come to Purdue University.
Especially since I decided to be in this College of Agriculture.
I think my opportunities are endless and I have gained so many skills
and so much just from being here at Purdue in these past three years.
