This is Steven with Wimervision and today I'm going to show you how to root your Motorola
Droid X without ADB. It only took 1 week from release for the Droid X hacking community
to figure out how to root it and I'm going to show you what they did. This version will
not use ADB and should work for those that are having issues with the ADB version. Credit
for the root goes to Sebastian Kramer, Birdman, and [mbm] and to qoncept of Droidforums for
saving me the time of writing the guide. The source as well as myself take no responsibility
for whatever happens as a result for attemping this hack.
You are going to need a couple things before proceeding. You need access to a terminal
emulator from the market, the root files, and astro file manager. Links to the root
files are in the video description. Once you've downloaded all the files using the Droid X
and installed the applications, you will need to extract the root files to the download
folder using Astro.
Open your terminal emulator enter the first three commands given in the video description.
This next part requires you to have a wifi or bluetooth widget handy. Go ahead and type
the next command in and immediately after toggle wifi or bluetooth off and on. Next
we will type rootshell into the terminal and when it asks for a password, type 'secretlol'.
If the $ turns into a # then it worked.
Go ahead and run the last set of commands in the video description. This will take awhile
and the commands are case sensitive so pause the video here while you type them in. Once
you are down with that type su and press enter. If the prompt changes to # then you are now
fully rooted.
