during the 2013 joslin international symposium on diabetes
scientists gathered in Boston to talk about their research
in honor of doctor C Ronald Kahn a man who has made tremendous contributions to
the fight against diabetes
we caught up with a few Joslin researchers who spoke at the event
We are trying to understand
how to improve diabetes using
an old approach an anti-inflammatory approach
to bring blood glucose levels down I'll be presenting
the data from our most recent trial that is been just recently published
and we've also been trying to understand
in greater detail how this drug works
and we have found that works very similar
to the way that metformin works which is the most used
diabetes drug in the World whose mechanism isn't understood
so that's been very informative to find out that we have
similar mechanisms and we actually know a lot about the mechanisms
so salicylate so we're learning a lot about how metformin works in parallel
