This is how crochet a single crochet.
I'm starting with the basic chain.
In the second chain from the hook
----
I'm going to go in.
Now I can go into the top loop so there's only one loop on the hook.
I can go down
so two loops are on the hook.
----
Or I can turn the chain over
and I can choose to work through the back loops These are the little bumps
that are down the back of the chain.
That works really well when you want a nice smooth edge
if you're making a scarf or something where you're not going to work another
border around it,
However, for the purse we are going to be working a border around our panel.
So I'm going to be working
in the second stitch from the hook and I'm going under the two loops.
The reason I'm doing this is because it will make it a little bit stronger.
It's yarn over
and pull it through so there are two loops on the hook.
Yarn over and pull it through the two loops on the hook.
We are just going to continue.
Put the hook under those two loops.
Yarn over and pull it through.
Two loops are on the hook.
Yarn over and pull it though the two loops on the hook.
We'll continue down the row.
Going under the two loops of the chain.
Yarn over, pull through and yarn over pull through two loops on hook.
----
Continue making the single crochets.
When I reach the end of the chain,
I'm going to make a single chain.
----
I'm going to turn it and I'm bring it up for the second row.
----
So it will be equal to a single crochet.
----
Into that first single crochet my hook will go under the two top loops.
If you look from the top, you can see there is a V, created by the two top loops.
My hook goes under there.
----
Yarn over and pull through
under those same two loops.
Yarn over and pull through the two loops on your hook.
Just continue to the end.
----
Every time you make an additional row
chain one, turn and continue.
----
----
Here's the last one.
----
That is the single crochet.
